Get the instruction book out for your sewing machine and get started, you will master it in no time! Hand sewing takes hours and hours!!! A sewing machine takes seconds. Go on you can do it! If you get stuck KZbin has hundreds of videos for beginners, good luck❤️

Your stitches look amazing! When I was pregnant in the 1970s we didn't have a lot of money. We were invited to an event and I had nothing to wear. I borrowed a pattern, found a sale on fabric (3 yards for a dollar) and hand sewed my dress. I remember being terrified it would all fall apart while I was at the event. All went well and the dress held up great until I had my baby. Yay for hand sewing!!

MORE OF THESE PLS!!! I don’t want to buy a sewing machine, because I don’t sew very often and because minimalism, but I occasionally attempt a thrift flip by hand. Transformations that keep a lot of the original structure and requires less sewing are easier if you don’t have a sewing machine, but most transformation videos on KZbin completely deconstruct the garment first and it’s very hard to recreate by hand. This video is also very educational - cool techniques and tips!

I'm very poor and my sewing machine dreams always fell short because, well you know, money 🤣 but thank goodness I saw a post on Facebook where someone sold sewing machine for 10e!! Euros to dollars is almost exactly the same, I think. But now my problem is that I don't have anything to sew 😂 I rarely can thrift shop because I just don't have the money, but I'm gonna save any fabric I can find and when I have enough I'm gonna make something.

Great job! I started with hand sewing first. When I was young I was bed ridden for few weeks. I was bored and want to do something so decided on sewing. My mother cut the pieces for me and I sew it while laying. Mom helped me with stitches. It turned out really good. To let you know how good it is I still wear it 20 years later. And since it is one of my home wear clothes I atleast wear it once a twice a week. My tip is running stitch is not good with joining pieces. Back stitch is the way to go. You can use it for places like joining facings but for side seams, crotch seams it will not be strong enough.

I love hand sewing - you can do it anywhere :-) But I'd probably recomend to do a backstitch every five or so running stitches, running stitch alone tends to get snagged and then the whole seam gets puckered. Never thought abou waxing my thread when sewing, however, though I do it a lot in bookbinding... thanks for advice!

This gave me the motivation I needed to finish hand sewing a project :D Also, a trick I was taught recently to make stitches look more uniform is if you can see the threads in the fabric, leave 2 threads between each stitch and each stitch is 4 threads long. It's tedious, but eventually, you get better at estimating the space and length between stitches!

Was watching this and yeeeeeeees to ironing waxed thread! I find that if you don't iron, it can almost make the thread feel worse to use - another option if you don't want to bother turning the iron on its to get a wad of scrap fabric and pull the thread through quickly a few times, the friction heats that wax in a similar way. I'd also recommend using a thimble all the time when hand sewing, not just the thick bits. The pressure of the needle on the middle finger being not super comfortable can slow you down quite a bit even when sewing a really thin fabric together

I only sew by hand, because I find it more relaxing. I can do it in the park, I can watchi videos and not be disturbed by the loud sewing machine noises. I lose my needle too, but thats less annoying then re-threading a bobbin for me. I don't mind being slow, I don't need that many clothes anyways. So enjoy the slow journey.

Soooo envious, my hand stitching looks like hand stitching...by a 10 year old. As my vision is problematic, so along with reading glasses, I sew under a high intensity light (which also assists in locating my repeatedly "lost" needle). I wonder, does the strength provided to the thread by waxing diminish after laundering? Love seeing thrifted items become beautiful, wearable outfits.

If you want hand sewing tips, there's a video from Bernadette Banner with explanations. Regarding machine sewing, you'll probably be sticking with a standard straight stitch most of the time (the first one listed on your machine). This works for most things and you can add backstitches (reversing) to make it stronger if you need. The other options on your machine are probably zigzags (usually used for stretch material), a buttonhole stitch, and maybe some decorative options. Hope that helps.
