Jandai Varisai is a very important lesson for Vainikas. The string plucking and movement of the left hand have to be learnt and practiced clearly. There are of course many styles of playing the Jandais. I am showing just one of them.

So well explained & simplified the janta-varisai learning which otherwise seems something to be a tough concept to understand. It now helps to play & practise with confidence and interest. Thankyou ma'am for your beautiful teaching with all that patience, care & concern.

Namaskaram mam! Thank you much for this video. Very detailed one which answers all possible questions of a learner! . Key techniques -sliding along the swaras smoothly without lifting both the fingers and adjusting the index finger to accommodate the space is captured clearly in this video. The knowledge you share transcends so well flawlessly to the students sitting miles away! Its a blessing mam!

I remember as a child struggling with the avarohanam Jantai varisai. I was taught to move the index finger one fret to the left for avarohanam to get the tonal effect - so I really liked the way you do it. I tried it and it is much easier on the fingers. Are there times we use the avarohanam technique in songs? I have used the arohanam technique in almost all songs - but have never used the avarohanam style.

There are different schools of thought as far as Janta Varisai is concerned. I use a simpler method because my style of playing does not require the format you mentioned

While learning this lesson in the beginer level it looks a simple one but once we go into advance and start playing songs or do a composition that's when it plays a crucial part, especially on veena. Thank so much for making this video which clearly shows the hand technique to get that particular sound.

Thank you very much madam🙏 That was indeed a great motivation to come out of fear of playing "Jantavarisai".. which must have been the case with many...That was very inspiring note, that 'not only Practice, there should be a clear understanding of the concept to acquire any skill'.... It's a golden word madam, which is applicable to any skill...Thanks a lot madam 🙏

Yes a very valid question. I have always suggested that Janta Varisai is played and practiced in one speed only. The reason being, anyway you are playing 2 notes per beat which is actually the second speed. Janta Varisai is more about the splitting movement of fingers plus getting the tonal effect. My suggestion therefore is please focus on these, rather than on speed. No need for third speed.

Amazing I was able yo find this video. Hi Mam, this is Suchi. I’m a new bee to learn Veena and my classes are through Skype. I have been playing janta varisai by striking the same S string twice instead of the way you explained. But if I pay attention the way you are explaining this makes more sense and it’s so nice to hear instead of striking same note twice. Also for RR note, I used to strike the 1R twice. Is this right?

Yes Suchitra you are right. Check out my watch and play along series playlist and you will find your veena journey joyful. Don't forget to use the metronome. Talam is most important at this stage
