I just made a Rock gnome School of Invention Wizard / Artificer NPC who was a former Professor of Magic in a University, renowned all over the continent due to his books and essays on the "science of magic", it's just so much fun to come up with all the quirks, mannerisms and eccentricities! Gnomes are great!!
@ChaosWolf19825 жыл бұрын
Sufficiently analysed magic is indistinguishable from science.
@LS9945 жыл бұрын
ChaosWolf1982 That is precisely the point of this character! As he dabbles in both studies of technology and magic, he has reached the same conclusion you have proposed, seen for example in the creation of his Arcanomechanical Armor (from the School of Invention UA), which is the first of its kind in my setting. I still have to write down a lot of his story, but I believe the concept to be very fascinating. Edit: on the other hand, as it has been said a number of times in pop culture, science we don't yet fully understand is indistinguishable from magic. I wish to explore both these concepts with this character.

I just started a campaign with a rock gnome. She is going for the assassin route with a SUPER tricked out crossbow. I'm using the tinker abilities to have her make little clockwork bombs as well. "Aww isn't that little mouse toy cute? Wait why is its tail sparkling? What the hell is...bomb 5-10 points of fire and slashing damage". Anyway her crossbow will be fitted with optics that each level I grow after 3rd level will grow +1 as well. So yes soon this small creature will be dealing 1d10 + my current level -2. Does anyone else see and hear the irony? Mr. Riegel or anyone else that wants to, please let me know your opinion and what kinds of fun you can foresee with this build.
@martijnvanweele62045 жыл бұрын
I had an awesome idea that I never got to execute with a gnome wizard in a short-lived campaign. Faced with a locked door and in a party without a rogue, she'd turn her familiar into a spider and have it crawl into the lock. Then she'd see through the spider's eyes and discern through her artificer's lore and overall intelligence what a key that would fit this lock would look like. Then she'd use prestidigitation to create a key just like that. I was also planning to give her _knock,_ so that when she failed the check to figure out the key, she could just sigh and cast that.

I actually have a gnome. His name? Dewey Decimal. Before you start snickering, here’s why. When he was a lad, he stumbled into an ancient library. With only his gnomish to read the books, it took him 10 years to translate the other books, and another 30 years to read them all. His name is Dewey Decimal, as it refers to nonfiction libraries in the real world. Of course, these books have him extreme knowledge, but as with all knowledge, it comes at a cost. His constitution is his lowest stat, so if he gets hit, he’s just about as dead as a door nail. However, with some of his spells like detect poison, this wouldn’t really matter much.
