Watched this to see how to access the adjuster. many thanks! My preferred method of adjustment is back the back wheels off the deck, handbrake off and adjust till the the wheels start to bind a bit, then wind off a bit till they're free.

All done. Nice easy job. I used a 1/4 10mm deep socket to adjust but I can see the benefit of ratchet ring spanner so I'll have to get a set. cheers for the video.

I'm presuming the car has a caliper type handbrake. Since the rear caliper brake auto-adjusts, adjust the nut in the off position to take up any slack?

That much free play isn't good! It means there is an issue further back. Either a sticky auto-adjuster at the wheel end or the cables have stretched past the point of safe usage. Always check the wheel end first!!

The amount of clicks depends what it states in the manual, mine for skoda fabia mk1 1.4 is 4 clicks, at the moment it's 6, defo needs adjusting...Good video but I think I'll jack car up and do what states in manual, check wheels first then the adjusting to handbrake

Helpful video for the adjustment, but my interior is different. I have an 05 golf tdi. A lot of the interior has been swapped with unknown audi parts, but I thought the center console was stock.

Our consoles are different. I ended up removing the rear cup holder to get to the two torx screws. Remove them. Remove the arm rest with a 13mm socket. Pry the caps off the torx screws at the front of the two piece console and remove. Then the console can come up for access to the cables.

It sounds like the handbrake has seized at the brake end. Has the car been sitting unused for a long time ?

Great video. I have a bit of a problem. The left side of the cable has pulled in more than the right side, so it's uneven. Is there any way to rectify this?

Thanks, that's what the equalizer bar is for, so it still pulls each cable with the same force even if one cable is slightly longer than the other. However, if the cable lengths are very different, the cables could over-stretched and it may be time to renew them.

@screwsnutsandbolts I think the cable might be overstretched as this is what led the other end to detach completely, hence losing the handbrake altogether.
