Coronavirus Quarantine: Video 32
I will be trying to post simple daily videos for inspiration for my students, and my subscribers to help give us some learning and distraction during this national emergency. Here is a link to the playlist I am adding to: • Online Learning During...
This video shows the process I used to create a handbuilt citrus juicer with slab and pinch methods of construction!
Check out this link to a live searchable Google Doc I continually update with lots of my favorite tools on Amazon using my associate links! (also some non-amazon suggestions on here!)

I am a public high school ceramics teacher at William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio. (Mason is currently the largest high school in Ohio!) As a potter, I have been working in clay for over 30 years, and I have been teaching for over 28 years, the past 20 have been specifically teaching high school ceramics. I love what I do! I have my own studio in my home basement, where I work on my personal pottery for my Etsy site; www.etsy.com/shop/KaransPotsA...
I started my KZbin channel a few years ago, to make videos to help my students if they are absent and miss a demo, or if they would like to explore more advanced techniques independently. I have been amazed to reach such a wider audience than my own students!
Please subscribe to my channel if you would like to receive channel updates, or would like to learn more about clay and studio processes!

@@KaransPotsAndGlass I love teaching pottery, and we all never stop learning. the way to throw a juicer is the same start to making chip and dip bowls, corkless salt shakers, ring jugs, and a few. other pots. I love hand building tea pots do you have videos for that?

Hey, I’ve wanted to make one of these for a while! Thank you for the how-to. Could you do a video on firing your pieces? I’m a new kiln owner (the community studio is closed) and I have a new-to-me manual kiln. Could you talk about bisque and glaze temps and loading?

@KaransPotsAndGlass
@KaransPotsAndGlass 3 жыл бұрын
Yes- Mudtools is a brand of great clay tools here in the States- Stanley brand makes a tool that they call a surform- since it’s a bigger company- those might be international! I find those at hardware stores- often sold near rasps.

I love the project. I plan to try this one. The only issue I have with the video is that she started off saying she wanted to offer a distraction from the grief the Covid-19 has caused because of the quarantine then droned on listing why the quarantine sucked. We could've used the distraction of how bad things are without being told she was saddened for her students.
@KaransPotsAndGlass
@KaransPotsAndGlass 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Yolanda- but I am sad. Really sad. I guess it was a day when I felt it strongly. I will try to do better. I have a ton of seniors who are great and I miss them and I never had closure with tme... and my own daughter who is a senior. And I was talking to my students as well so they know how I feel. Sorry if my droning on was not pleasant... but it was me, and it was real. :)

So Soap clay things shrink 15-20% though after being fired twice. I’ve never made this object but I know from experience that shrinkage is real!! And all clay shrinks at different percentages
@KaransPotsAndGlass
@KaransPotsAndGlass 4 жыл бұрын
Alana is correct- this still has a LOT of shrinking to do! Once it is fired, it will be a good size. It definitely looks bigger in some shots die to the exaggeration of the perspective of the camera lens!
