Most of Handel's keyboard music never gets played. It tends to be spontaneous and of variable quality. It is thought that most of it dates from early in his life - some even from when he was a young man in Hamburg, before going off to Italy in 1707. This allemande is one of those isolated gems which are neglected because they are not within the 'Great' suites published in 1720.
FAQ
Q. You’re generally playing instruments made by yourself. How many have you made?
A. Around three hundred of various types, over nearly fifty years.
Q. Which do you prefer - making or playing?
A. Neither, but I’ve just finished my last instrument, so from now on it’s playing and teaching.
I also enjoy writing. My book, published in 2010, was very satisfying, and hundreds of purchasers have thanked me for it. Also, musical periodicals have published several of my articles, building on the contents of the book. All these can be found at www.colinbooth.co.uk
