Im having both, new Echo 2520 and Stihl bg50. I like the Echo better. The Echo seems more powerful, has dual exhaust and efficiency. Starts way easier and smoother than the Stihl50, doesn’t matter -30 or -40 below. Both need to be warm up but this new echo 2520 seems like warm up faster than the Stihl. Gas tank is almost double bigger than Stihl. But the tube attachments are not good from this Echo, very loosen. The Stihl plastic i find better. It’s more solid than Echo. Stihl bg50 has cabulator adjustment but Echo does not or may be very tricky to find out. I would say i would have to adjust the Stihl’s cab every year for smooth running but the Echo Not. Have also owned the other Handheld Echo lasts 20 years without any problem. I like the Stihl too but as I have both, I like this new Echo better, more powerful, 457 cfm and the Stihl is 412cfm. Both Stihl and Echo are assembled in the USA but original engine or parts made from where is not said. Im just the normal home owner and want to share my points, hope that would help. Thanks Brian for your great video. Always like your great mood whenever showing the video 😁👍

A better comparison would be the BG86 vs the 2520. The BG50 is meant for light work, not blowing piles of leaves. I work on small engines. I rarely see Stihl or Echo in my shop because they are very reliable. I do think that Stihl has a better design and they are the most reliable. However, Stihl parts are expensive and they can be hard to work on as well. I personally use Stihl, Echo is not a bad option.

The Echo isn't as powerful, but still has higher cfms and weighs lighter than the stihl. It also has a bigger gas tank.

We blow off the porches and steps of dozens of rental properties in New Orleans. That echo 2520 is a beast. 2 guys can hit a block worth of houses in just a few minutes. Its impossible to squeeze down the sides of houses in some neighborhoods with a backpack blower so a powerful handheld is indispensable.

I have an Echo PB 2520 for 3 years but I've always been a stihl fan.
@bigtexas75804 жыл бұрын
*I have the echo pb8010 backpack, it's a beast and will move anything fast. I just don't always feel like bringing it out so I took my stihl bg85 handheld and ported and polished the cylinder head and replaced the muffler with an expansion chamber pipe and I port matched the pipe and all of the **gaskets.Now** this little bg85 revs smooth and crisp and has some serious raw power, I know it's putting out way more cfm than before I did the work to it. I actually don't have to pull out my 8010 as much because this bg 85 has more than enough power for nearly everything now. I ported and polished the head on my redmax 7500 and modified the muffler as well and this thing keeps up with the 8010 now.*

How on earth do you port a cylinder head on a 2 stroke?
@bigtexas75804 жыл бұрын
@@Joe_Litt *It's actually quite easy if you have a dremel and a steady hand.*
@Joe_Litt4 жыл бұрын
Big Texas I believe you are missing the point. There is nothing to port on a 2 stroke head. There aren't any intake or exhaust ports on a 2 stroke cylinder head.. If you mean porting the cylinder, that is a different story.
@bigtexas75804 жыл бұрын
@@Joe_Litt *LOL, ok. Apparently you have no idea what a 2 stroke engine is if you don't believe they have an intake and exhaust port.* 🤣
@Joe_Litt4 жыл бұрын
Big Texas so after a quick part search, I guess one could say we are both correct, since in the specific example the Sthil engine you referenced used a one piece cylinder and head. So I guess one could refer to that as a head, though technically you ported the cylinder of the assembly. If you were to look at dirt bikes or any 2 stroke with a separate cylinder and head, you would see there are no intake or exhaust ports in the head itself. Having been around 2 stroke Karts my dad raced my whole life, I was quite confused by your comment.

I own the BG50 and recently did a really big leaf clean up with it (only blower i have) and I am VERY impressed with it. I have used the BG55's and the BG86's and the BG50 is right there with them. the 86 is supposed to be the commercial handheld from Stihl but I personally do NOT like it very much. The 86 is VERY cold natured and I dont think it has any more power than the BG50. I was moving wet leaves and everything with my little 50 blower. Sure it was slow going, but it got the job done. I will be in the market for a backpack blower come next season. I dont really NEED one, but I want one because I just like backpack blowers a lot lol

I don’t know about this specific model, but an echo with a leaf system is usually around $220-$250. My Stihl stuff over the last few years has had some issues with bad carburetors--in the blowers and my hedge trimmers, and apparently it’s getting to be a big problem for the company. My brand new Stihl hedge trimmers had to have a new carb put in after less than a year of use. My Echo equipment though starts every time and runs like a dream, so I’m at the point of phasing out Stihl and running strictly Echo. Too much time lost waiting for my Stihl to come back from the shop.
@markrussell.6 жыл бұрын
I bought the Echo last week man does it take a long time to warm up, would this blower benefit by any kind of carb adjust after a few tanks of gas?. I have watched plenty of KZbin videos and everyone says give it 5 minutes to warm up, is this normal for a 2 stroke blower this is my first one.

i think the echo did a better job. watch the first part the echo either the sawyer was used to a backpage and not a hand held or the stihl is a bit under powered at the start. now long life i think sthil is build to last a long time. but serious i wouldnt turn either one down. but like some people have said. if you dont want one of them. send it to me. lol again awesome video and fanstastic review. a suggestion for an upcoming video. with winter hitting, hows about a video of just winterizing all you equipment. i know i would watch it. i know how to do my house stuff. but never seen what a whole buisness has to do.

Good comparison but what's up with all these leaf blower videos of people not wearing hearing protection. It's not an issue until you get older, then you have to live with constant ringing, not good. Hearing loss is not usually a one-time loud noise, it's a time-weighted average. Of course you can ignore it if you only plan on living until you're 40. Seriously guys, use protection...LOL

Craftsman gas powered tools have sunk to the bottom of the list, it's no wonder they went out of business selling the junk like they did. The Stihl is working fine for me. This Echo model can be purchased online but it is not available in store at Home Depot or any other Big Box store. The only models that Home Depot carries in store are the entry level 250LN blower, 225 & 230 SRM series trimmers. If you want a real Echo trimmer, you don't get those models, you get the new ProExtreme 2620 series and SRM266 series and up! I've used a lot of Stihl and found it all very hard starting, high vibration, not very reliable, power is ok. You can get a 5 year commercial warranty from Maruyama.
