I was on Amazon and spotted this for 30 bucks. I build high end rods for myself and thought, well the guides alone would cost me 15 bucks so let’s see. In hand it’s a surprisingly nice rod. It could easily compete with 100-150 dollar rods. At least visually. I ordered the genius reel to pair it with and it’s just going to be a have fun and torture test it on river smallmouth rod, next season. If I don’t break it, it’ll be a decent loaner rod.

When they are on sale, I've found handing rods to be great values. Their weak point seems to be sensitivity when compared to my better rods, but for some applications 9or for loaner rods) that's not a big deal.

Appreciate the comment. I do my best to keep trying new thigns and sharing the ones that are worth it. Just so many new products every year, and honestly so many other tpyes of videos I want to make, so it's always a balance.

Hey Aaron, how does the M1 Medium compare with the new Kistler Kyrios bfs rods?

M1 is stiffer and less sensitive. The Kyrios is surprisingly nice.

What are your thoughts on the handing magic shadow? I'm looking at getting a moderate fast medium light version of it and pairing it with an Okuma Hakai or a Ark Gravity. Also is the MF ML version I'm looking at a good in-betweener for BFS and power BFS or is it leaning more towards on or the other?

Haven;t used that rod, but it should work well with the Ark Gravity. Did Okuma finally relewase the shallow spool Hakai? I pre-ordered it at least twice in 2022 or so, and both times it was cancelled, and they finally said no known ETA. As far as the Magic Shadow, it's solidly in the power BFS range - heavier rating than pretty much anything I use - even my non-BFS Kistlers, for example.

@AaronHuntFishing On Okumas website they got it listed in the SKU number chart of all the options and I was excited when I saw they had the bfs model listed because I really like Okumas rods and wanted to give one of their reels a try, but it's not a selectable model when you go to order one which was super disappointing. But I'm fine with going with the Ark Gravity, and I have a few rod choices thanks to ur videos!
