I have been observing your craft for a long time and admire your strength

It’s always surprising to me how many people don’t think to “cut the length in half” by hanging the pope over the catwalk railing or side of the ship. Most people when starting out think they half to walk up the pile every time. Your video shows how to lower the pole down then lay across the walkway. Good job

Thank you. I'm trying to show some of what works for me, hoping it may help newer people to the industry. I've had some close call with unlocking poles before I learned better ways to handle them. It's not any fun dropping an unlocking pole and seeing it popping back up at my face.

Hello colleagues from Seattle. I would be so happy if you would make more videos with the 4-5 high unlocking bars💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

I will try to work on that. It's going in to winter so recording in the dark is harder.

@@gdshiplashing8239 Have you ever used telescopic poles? And do you always work with the rods during the day or at night?
@gdshiplashing82397 ай бұрын
No we do not use telescopic poles. Yes we day and night using the same gear, we just wear headlamps at night.

Dope video bro! Do y’all have 3 men or two men when lashing?
@gdshiplashing82392 жыл бұрын
Thanks. So when we lash it is always hired in pairs. The employer will hire lasher when a ship comes in to drop and unlock the gear. We lash the ships back on the finishing shift, sometime there may be a shift for catch up lashing. Generally speaking the employer will hire based off of 60 - 70s per person. We can have anywhere between 2 - 30 lashers on one ship.

@@gdshiplashing8239 man I appreciate that info bro! Sounds like y’all have it down packed over there! I’m assuming y’all have a lot of moves on the ships? I wish we had that set up right there!

@@Ericthelongshoreman yes depending on the ship. But as a person who mostly lashes it's just about the amount of cans to lash. Some of these ships now days are crazy big. I got to say I prefer lashing off the deck for sure.

do you actually always open 4-5 high with the poles? what do you do when you have giant ships that are 22 wide. do you open another 4-5 layers from the gangboard? greatest respect to you.
@gdshiplashing8239 Жыл бұрын
Yes we always use 4 and 5 poles to unlock (open) twists locks even on bigger ships. This is if the containers height is 4 and 5 from the upper most tier of the lashing bridge.
