You have such a wonderful attitude towards this injury man… so many people would be very down and unmotivated, but you’re such a champ and you’re still grinding and doing your best to maintain fitness with the injury, WHILE keeping a positive outlook. That’s very rare to find in an athlete and an individual. You’re going to bounce back better than ever bro just trust me 🤟

So sorry about your injury, unfortunately it is so common for those who want to push themselves to do better. I've had multiple injuries, and now have to work with what I got. I don't run anymore because my left knee is missing a meniscus, but with time I found new workout routines that help me push myself and work with what I got. So happy for you that you overcame the injury in body and in spirit!

Been following the journey a bit on stava. As someone who was injured at possibly the most crucial point in my running career(transition summer from high school to college) and lost a scholarship because of it, you just gotta keep pushing man. Sometimes things don't go your way and you gotta take a bit off, and you seemed to take that super well. Very motivating as I start my journey to run in college once again.

A coach revoking a scholarship due to one scholarship is ridiculous. Hope you're doing better now!

Same thing happening to me. Strained hip flexor took me out of my first college cross season. Sucks because my aerobics were so good and now that I'm starting to run again I can tell that they aren't. Now just getting ready for indoor.

I’m sorry about your injury, it can be so devastating. I was training for a marathon that I was supposed to run this Sunday but, after my last 20 mile long run, I had developed it band pain. I cannot go beyond 6 miles without severe pain. To say I’m gutted is an understatement. All will get better in time.

My college running career ended with this same injury. I ran D1 and in my sophomore year, it flared up. Took me 10 years to figure out how to build mileage again. The MOST important thing: soft surfaces. Brock - my guess would be that 30-70% of your Boulder mileage was on crushed gravel and dirt. Mississippi is probably more sidewalk and asphalt? Bones are not meant for concrete - I feel a mile on sidewalks 3x longer than I feel a mile on dirt. If you're stuck on harder surfaces, really encourage you to emphasize lifts to support muscles around your tibs (shin muscle, all calf muscles, feet, ankles) - more meat you have on your lower legs means less impact on your bone/tendons. But whenever you can, drive to somewhere soft. Just my two cents as someone who doesn't want this to linger and set you back too far!!

Well put. I avoid pavement like a plague. Grass, dirt road, turf, track (some), and treadmill. I’m only on concrete while running 5k’s

I have been dealing with a similar issue for the past few months. I have found taping my shin with KT tape, running on soft surface, and doing strength sessions focused on my shins to help. I have also been doing some muscle scraping which has helped a few days before races and workouts. Mine appears to have been caused due to under utilization of my glutes plus high mileage. Figured I would share in case any of this helps. Keep up the great content.

Hello currently experiencing this same injury -- any additional info would be amazing!
@Mateo_Luna1 Жыл бұрын
Hey @@viridianamendoza6537 so what I have done the most for rehab is like I said up there 👆 but I would add that rolling out and stretching the calves and your whole legs helps a lot too, to be honest it took a few months of rehab, followed by a few more months of continuing to do all of the little things like, stem therapy, ice baths, hot baths, contrast baths, normatech, rolling out and stretching multiple times a day, using compression socks constantly even when I wasn't running, and definetly go to a running store so they can properly fit you for a shoe that fits your form. I hope you recover quickly but the main thing is that you stay mentally positive and have a growth mindset in this injury trusting that you will get better little by little even if theres weeks of no improvement, all the best to ya!

Hope you heal up quickly. I've literally had the same injury about 6 weeks ago, and it destroyed my marathon training. Was on course for a sub 3:15, and this injury halted my training. I ended up hanging on for 18 miles at a sub 3:15 pace, then hit the hills on the back half of the course and came through the Finish line at 3:26.

Yeah, mate! I found I was bouncing a lot when I was running so the tibia was handling all my upper body weight and therefore getting inflamed. The other thing I recommend you do is take a thera band, attach one end to your feet, and the other one do the leg of the table, and rotate your ankle inwards. In the beginning doing this exercise would hurt but within a week the pain was gone for me

I have an injury in my lower back and hip it’s just tight and hurts during the race. The first race I ran 34:46 in the 8k then my time was consistently 39 for the other XC meets. Since CACC coming up on two weeks I might not be able to race the last meet especially since 7 people are able to go.

I had the same injury and couldn’t run for 8 months last year. Started to see progress after getting custom orthotic insoles because my posterior tibialis was affecting my arch.

My shoes were also a big issue. I found that low midsole heights like the streakflys and pegs helped stop my flare ups and big cushiony shoes like the invincible runs just aggravated it more because every step was not as stable.

I recommend plyometrics bro. I used to always have shin, calf & achilles issues but once i started incorporating that it really helped! Also make sure to always warm up your legs nice before your runs. I like to do a lot of calf raises and dynamic stretches. Sometimes my calves are super sore but i’m able to run on it by warming them up and taking it really slow. Also yes form is important!
@DevinDesouza Жыл бұрын
I used to take time off thinking it would help but these are strength issues that need to be addressed. Once you come back it’ll be easy to aggravate it again so just make sure to keep working those muscles and promoting blood flow during the time away

Sad news, bud. But if Miss Pam is still there, get in the water to do Aqua jogging. Huge benefits to help maintain your Cardo fitness without impact. 6 x 5:00 @ 5k tempo (:30 wall rest) was a key for me the year we won conference. No running on land for 2 months before going all conference. Check it out as another option.

Hey man, I've had a similar injury for 2 years now due to the same thing: spending too much time on the ground in between strides. Currently under going a lot of strength work with glutes and feet which has paid off as my technique has improved but have got to the point where im needing orthotics. ive posted a shorts video on my channel about stretcging this specific area on the shin if you want to watch it :)

You know, could be a tibial stress fracture possibly. I’m in the same boat rn and I thought it was just muscle/tendon issues because the X-ray was clear, but after a CT scan, it showed stress fractures. The pain is in the same area as yours and I also pushed high mileage this year. Just something to consider.
@TheBrockKelly Жыл бұрын
Definitely could be. I got an X-ray about a week ago and it didn’t show any stress fractures. I also can’t pin-point the pain, which I think is kind of unusual. Could you pin-point the area?
@elonMusk-ry3xq Жыл бұрын
@@TheBrockKelly I feel pain all along the posterior tibialis and I didn't know at first where the fracture was located until they showed me the scan. don't know if that answers your question.
