Juliette, you continue to amaze us. You acted like you had done it for years. I walk in mornings on a local Greenway in NC. Recently I was walking and just had my head down focusing on not being so hot. I saw my foot land about 1 foot in front of a 3-4 foot copperhead's head as he was crawling across the path. Of course I did a quick dance and got a few feet away. I looked back and he was continuing across the path as if I had never even been there. I watch a little closer now, but because of your site and Chandler and some others, I understand a little more about the snakes.

I was just watching Tyler Nolan’s video of getting bitten by a king cobra! He was hospitalized for 8 weeks and lost half his finger, but luckily still alive. I remember reading in the Guiness Book of World Records back in the late 70s as a kid that the largest Gaboon Viper ever found had bit itself in the back one night and died when zoo keepers came in the next day. A beautiful but deadly snake.

Tyler has some huge eastern rattlers too. Beautiful snakes though. Gaboon is probably my favorite venomous snake. Wish there was some place or person near me I could mentor under. Good job Juliette. Handled it like a pro 😉

I just remember them trying and trying to correct that, growth, and it never really healing, affecting it's eating habits and such, least that's what I remember. Terrified of snakes, but I absolutely love the Gaboon Viper. That, and a King Cobra I really really like. It’s a crazy fear because an alligator doesn’t bother me at all, but snakes and bloody lizards, omg, I can’t ever imagine wanting to see one without an inch of glass between us.

I live is South Africa on the East coast and have seen a snake handler "bag" a Gaboon Viper/adder... and I think what he did was much more saver then what you did at 10:12 with your hand holding the bag open so close to its head. Ok but what this snake handler did was, he grabbed his bag by the corner away from the opening and turned the bag inside out over his hand and arm, then picked up the snake by the tail with the bag in the same hand, picked up the snake he worked the bag down over his hand turning it "outside in" over the snake from the tail till it covered the head. Still holding onto the tail all the time using his hook to work the snake so that it coiled up pulling its own head into the bag opening. he also used his hook to pull the sting that closed the bag.

I've always been curious as to why snake hooks aren't longer? Oh, I get it that it's easier to control the animal if you are also grabbing the tail. But I would imagine that there would be an alternative and longer hook for when one wishes to more safely avoid being bitten?

You underestimate how strong these snakes can be. They are pure muscle, having the snake hook too long would make it hard to control and you would be relying solely on your hand/wrist muscle to hold it up, rather than your arm.

@@FloppyJoee, I've handled BIG pythons - yes, I do realize a heavy snake would make a long hook impractical. Guess I'm thinking of smaller but venomous snakes. Course, that rattler IS enormous (not sure how heavy).
