i think the bills are different lengths. the 1000 dong is shorter than a 100,000 dong note as an example. also the corner jewelry store across from ben than market has a good rate

Important information If you're travelling to Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia they will take only crispy new note only Worn (foreign) notes are not accepted (specially the US dollar and the Pound sterling)

They only take bank of England note They treat Scottish and Northern Irish notes as different currencies even though that's also a sterling pound too

You are missing some bills. There is a 500.000, and they go down to 200, smallest I’ve seen, with a cool tractor on the back. Note the ones 10.000 to 500.000 are plastic, you won’t confuse them with the small paper bills. But yes the 10.000 similar color to 100.000. The good thing is there are no coins. (Also note periods used instead of commas and vice versa when writing numbers, like the majority of countries. see wikipedia ‘decimal separator’)

That’s true. When I got there I was so confused about the notes. The first days I just handed the notes to them and let them pick. It ended up losing my notes very quickly. Don’t do that guys especially in the tourist area.

XE is a great ap. What I like about Viet currency. No coins! What I don't like so much is the useless 500 and 200 dong notes. I give small change to the maid if in a hotel. Totally agree about the 10K and 100K notes. I'm shortsighted and they're a pain to distinguish. The best place to exchange currency in my experience Ha Tam Jewelry located across the West entrance of Ben Thanh Market 2 Nguyen An Ninh, Ben Thanh, District 1. Go in the morning to avoid crowds. It's very popular.

Might want to check out the gold shops in HCM for exchanging...in Danang they offer the best rates and dont have to worry about having your passport with you. Good point with the 100k and 10k notes..when i first got to VN gave a taxi driver a 100k note by mistake instead of a 10k and he was nice enough to point it out and correct me...now I keep the small bills on one side of my wallet and large ones on the other

Hi Reekay! - found your Vlog's just a few days ago and enjoy all the good info. I very well could be over there withing a few months if all go's as expected here. By the way I grew up in your home town - Corpus Christi, Texas! Was In High School with 'Farah' back in early 60's at W.B. Ray... Had several classes with her, and loved her like so many others did! -lol - She was truly a sweet gal before she got involved with Hollywood!! - - Use to Roll her house with toilet paper quite often... That was the thing to do back in those days! ....... We'll have to get together and have a chat if I ever get over there. Plan to check out Vietnam and Thailand both. I spent 18 months in Vietnam back in 1967 thru 68 Tet! - Spent 3 weeks in a hospital .. Two times! .. Can you use credit/debit cards or say prepaid cards in some transactions? I think I'd go over every transaction in my head or phone to avoid over or under paying and that may be considered rude.

yes, but be aware of the fees your own bank will charge. VN atm's also have a surcharge on any withdrawal made from a non-VN bank. (same as the PH) using a schwab or fidelity (or perhaps chase) card is better since they reimburse those fees at atm's.

Not many Vietnamese have credit cards, but you can use visa and mastercard (maybe others?) at large supermarkets, malls, western restaurants and hotels.

Yup.....all those Zeros makes it difficult when traveling in VN. The VN people would frequently say 50 dollars to me (the American tourist).....meaning 50,000 VND. Yeah.....they just dropped the 1000s. I guess they were tired of trying.

you can get the latest exchange rate here online.. www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=viet+dong+to+php but to make an actual conversion, i exchanged my vietnamese money to USD currency and then exchanged to PHP when i arrived in the PH.

It's possible (maybe) to convert Philippine Peso to dong in Vietnam but I really wouldn't count on it. but you can convert US dollars to dong in Vietnam easily.

Good video. When I began to travel frequently starting in 2017 I also had to get used to the difference in denominations. I'm a Singaporean and our denomination is like US but for countries like Thailand, Japan and S. Korea it can be quite confusing and needed to get used to.

you mentioned the money was "released in 1988". if it's PH pesos, they might be worthless now. PH phased out older money a few years ago to the new PH currency. all the stores had signs at the register reminding everyone to exchange their money out before that year was over. your best way to know for sure would be to take a few of the bills to the PH bank and ask if that currency (mint year) still holds value.
