Really nice job!! What’s the distance you left from the lhs edge of the carcass to the swivel seat when rotated? Do you find you hit your knees or can the seat slide far enough back and you could use the edge like a desk for eg. I’m currently drawing out a design👍🏼 cheers Ant
@OurVanPlanАй бұрын
Thanks 😊 the swivel is quite close so we can rotate the seat but not all the way round so it faces the worktop. It goes far enough to face into the van diagonally (basically facing the sliding door) but couldn’t use the worktop as a desk. I think you’d have to sacrifice cupboard space to enable that, but it would be doable.

Long the build so far. I know your keen on saving weight. On your bench seating you could do cut outs to help with reducing the weight. Similar to long slots. Like van furniture seating. Dove that with mine.
@OurVanPlan2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’m worried about weight so I did think about replacing the seat bases with lighter weight ply or doing as you suggest.

Looks great 👍 love how much detail you give. Where did you get the tile sheets from, look a clever idea

Thanks! The tile sheets are made by multipanel and stocked all over the place. We got ours from Wolsey plumb centre.

More excellent work again Fella. How are you finding the Makita track saw when cutting plywood? Accurate clean cuts? Any ‘tear out’ issues with the plywood? 👍
@OurVanPlan2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yeah it’s really good, good clean cuts and only minor issues that can be fixed with sanding. Best tool I’ve used!
@pianomanjc32 жыл бұрын
With my Makita tracksaw, I upgraded the blade to a much finer one and its perfect for plywood; no tear out at all!

Hi did you use lightweight ply if you don’t mind me asking
@OurVanPlan3 ай бұрын
Yeah we used poplar ply from Sydenhams which is definitely lighter and nicer finish

Is the Poplar Plywood much lighter than standard Plywood and is it worth the extra money?
@OurVanPlan8 ай бұрын
Yeah it is quite a bit lighter and also smoother/better finish

Hey, when joining the middle two upright panels with the pocket holes on either side, did you have to drill the holes in different positions on each batten so that the screws didn't hit each other, or do you not have to worry about them hitting each other? Cheers
@OurVanPlan Жыл бұрын
Yeah I did them slightly out of alignment so the screws wouldn’t hit each other

What size support wood are you using? 50mm x what? Thanks

You mean in between each upright? It’s 18mm ply cut into the relevant width and depth (50mm as you say)

Hey guys hope your well I need some advice how did you get the spacing correct with the drawers and what size of ply was it again 😊
@peterjohnson9242 Жыл бұрын
Also what was your height and width of the panels
@OurVanPlan Жыл бұрын
The ply is 12mm and about 58cm deep and 85cm high. But I just measured the height of my kitchen worktop. The spacing I just worked out the total width and then accounted for the internal ply to plan out the drawer widths. Then just ordered those from drawerboxes.co.uk However it was made easier by having the fixed width fridge on the left and a cupboard on the right that could be flexible in width.

Hi guys. Would you mind telling me the exact name for the ply you used. Did you manage to find out how much lighter it is than birch ply? Also what paint did you finish it with? Yours looks awesome when finished. Did you prime first? And what sort of filler did you use? Sorry for so many questions. Hope you can help. Cheers Matt
@OurVanPlan Жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, it was Poplar Ply and got it from Sydenhams in Bristol. I didn’t measure but it is a lot lighter but it does dent more easily. Regarding paid, I did prime with zinsser 123 and then used Valspar eggshell (the top range one) for the finish. It went on amazingly well.

Thanks for the quick and useful response. One more question if you don’t mind. What glue did you use? Thanks again.

@doraexplora90468 ай бұрын
Why the hell are you working with 18mm ply? Are you intending to put V8 car engines on those benches? You only need 12mm at most. You can even get away with 6mm if you epoxy saturate them. Making a van light is better for power and fuel economy. You just need to build the cabinets to just the right amount of strength and thickness to hold cabinetry. Sorry , Unsubbed.
