it's also a hugely significant symbol in Ancient Greek funerary gravestones - the men of the family, especially those who have served their city in times of war (or at the very least, this is true for Athenian grave monuments), would often have images of themselves carved on their gravestone as a hoplite laying down his spear, shield and helmet, signifying that this was his main purpose in life, but that he has now completed his task
@bearlyalive96692 жыл бұрын
That’s actually demonstrated in the game when Kratos kills the King of the Berserks, Mimir originally refused Kratos from using the sword and claimed how everyone feared that weapon due to its history and Kratos told him how using it for the better will allow those to move past that history and decide for themselves how they will feel about it. What they did to the Brok and Sindri characters in this game is nothing short of astonishing. Taking what was two comic relief characters from the first game and deepening them in unexpected ways. Brok in particular benefits greatly -- the perfect example of simple doesn't necessarily mean stupid. He ends up with some of the best scenes in the game -- best represented by this video here. The darkening of Sindri, though, is one of the most tragic things I've seen in a video game. My heart broke for him but I was also deeply disappointed that he couldn't see past his own anger. Just amazing writing.
@immacat5152 жыл бұрын
The creators explained Sindri as being a metaphor for "the Giving Tree." I thought that was astonishingly creative, and really makes sense how he's operating (Sindri's overall personality). Not just how grief takes many forms - regarding the stages of grief, anger is VERY much one of them (and they can cycle through until one is able to reach acceptance) - but for the fact they went so deep as to show how taking advantage of someone or something, can have such adverse affects. The showing and teaching that just because someone is willing to be there for you, doesn't mean you cannot overstay your welcome; let alone finally break them past the point of no return. Take care of those in your life, because just like the giving tree, once it's gone it's gone forever.
@Downhuman742 жыл бұрын
@@immacat515 The Giving Tree is definitely a clever touch point. Although, I think there is an element of Sindri being the architect of his own misery here (in regards to Brok). He's just as much to blame as anyone for what happened.
@IsilmeTuruphant2 жыл бұрын
@@Downhuman74 I always saw Sindri's whole character being about a struggle for control in his life. His obsession about germs and cleanliness, his perfectionism in his crafting, and his overly generous and cooperative nature. It's all about trying to gain some control, the control he lost when Brok died the first time. It's all about running from that terrible loss of control of that moment. Then it happened again and... he broke. Everything he had made himself become to safeguard what mattered to him turned out to be pointless.
@Downhuman742 жыл бұрын
@@IsilmeTuruphant That's a great take. Pretty close to my own, actually, but with a heaping serving of guilt to go with it. Like I said, he's the architect of his own misery. If he had had the courage to let go of Brok when it was his time to go, he wouldn't be in the pain he's in at the end of the story. Brok suffered needlessly because of that decision and Sindri knows that deep down.
@frankwest5388 Жыл бұрын
@@IsilmeTuruphantthat is kind of a theme with all major characters in the game. That idea of trying to control your own life. Kratos is afraid of losing control , which he even imposed on Arteus. He does it to protect them both but it is harmful. Arteus doesn’t know how to control his life and ambitions, so he tries to find it in prophecy. Freya has lost control over her life to Odin And Odin is all about control. If he can’t control something he must destroy it, even if it would be harmless otherwise. Because he fears what he can’t control or understand. Which explains his obsession with the godly afterlife Thor has given up control and is a puppet to his father. I got choked up when i realized the lady of the forge didn't even notice him cause of his soul and brok was so excited to see her and kratos still gave him the respect to get his blessing

When I played this game. I shed a tear for this moment. Kratos truly cares for broke and I like to think it is because his views and his attitude reminds him of his Brothers from Sparta.

Indeed. "No, ya Idjit" is definitly the best quote in the game.

I love when he has Brok bless the weapon. He was a great blacksmith and a good friend.

That was the most bromantic thing Kratos has ever done for Brok.

For me, it is when the time Brok said: The F**K you want.

That is the most heartwarming compliment Kratos has ever given anyone in his entire life. Truly shows how much he respected Brok as a friend.

I never noticed that the sound of the wind is completely gone after brok takes it in the bag… and that they could talk at a normal volume afterwards. Incredible

Gotta love how Kratos took Brok's great quote and added a phylosophical/greek spin to it. This game's attention to detail is something else, man.

All these videos on KZbin about Kratos then versus now. But to me this moment here is what really signify that he was a different person. A young Kratos would not have gone out of his way to make someone feel better.

Look at my boy, Kratos, being humble and kneeling before his great blacksmith :.) . Nuf to bring a tear to your eye. You've come so far Kratos

So great. My favorite quote is when Kratos says “Death can have me when it’s earned me”

One of my favourite quotes from the previous game was Kratos saying to Atreus "don't be sorry, be better". One of my favourite quotes from Ragnarok was Atreus saying the same thing to Kratos

I missed that Kratos was repeating Brok. This game was truly a gem

Which is exactly why these two get along so well, because Brok’s entire nature is “man fuck this shit” and Kratos really resonates with that
