Kratos acknowledging that he must tell Atreus, but demanding to personally take responsibility for it really hits hard. In Ragnarok when Mimir mentions how far Kratos has come from when they first met, Kratos responds "I've had good counsel since then" and this is a prime example.

Honestly, this scene was the one that made me genuinely respect Mimir as more than a Mr. Exposition character. Despite being literally just a head with nothing more than his smarts, he openly calls Kratos out for being hard-headed and forces him to confront his feelings face-on. Despite literally just figuring out he's the Ghost of Sparta who decimated most of the Greek Pantheon.
@backtoklondike

They really subverted a lot of things with Mimir. You'd think he'd only be expositing and be the comic relief and could ruin scenes by making one-liners all the time. Sure he is the comic relief but they gave him depth. When moments needed to play out, he either keep quiet or he'd turn serious. And at the end of the first game, he even stayed with the dwarves because that was a moment Kratos and Atreus needed to be alone for and he wanted to respect that.

I love that they didn’t have Mimir say “Who’s Zeus?” Instead he says “Your father is Zeus? That explains a lot.” He knows who Zeus is and is not even remotely surprised Kratos is his son. Most certainly. There is so much lore in this crossing of Greek and Norse mythology that it's great that Mimir is able to storytell and world build based off of those myths. And throughout GOW4, Mimir just builds up and builds up Odin and Thor. That's how good he was - he got everyone looking forward to fighting guys who weren't even in that game. He also gave something that was lacking in the GOW franchise, a little bit of levity. And it allowed some character building too. Kratos for the most part is the silent strong father, especially in GOW4, but Mimir gave his son someone to talk to, so we as the player could hear it. And Kratos began having a companion whom he could talk to as well, something he rarely did in his earlier games other than shout and make threats. By Ragnarok, Kratos is more open as a character, and as a father. Mimir helped that. And that is how you do a proper character. Not only does he have his own stories, but he helps build and advance the stories of others, benefiting the whole thing.
