HANDS DOWN the BEST Mods for the Money on a 1st Gen Sequoia!!

I installed the bypass handle a couple months ago and it’s perfect. Probably better than the original design but mine was broke when I bought it so I can’t say for sure. But I can open the hatch with one finger while carrying groceries etc, locks fine and functions as needed. It took about an hour to install and most of that time was cleaning 20 years of dust out of the actuator (which hadn’t been actuating in I would guess 15 years). But pretty easy DIY. I don’t need the interior opener because it is a work rig and I couldn’t get into the back if I tried. But my next sequoia I will add both of these. Totally the best fix for the chronic problem!

Not hard at all by yourself - unless you are doing the interior release as well, then it helps to have an extra set of hands.

No, but there was a middle bucket / captain option and a bench option on some years. I just have the bench.

No, the original handle no longer opens the hatch. I removed the cable but left the mechanism in place. No point leaving it just to have it go bad again.
