I trialed some phonak paradise with hands free, and honestly I ended up preferring to hold when I got oticon more. Main reason is because sometimes the other person couldn't hear me due to background noise, and it was never as clear as holding the phone. Having said that, the option to do both is good, especially if you do take some calls in quiet places.
@OnnoterWisscha2 жыл бұрын
I prefer hands-free, BUT only when my voice doesn’t sound like some cheap walkie-talkie to the person I’m talking to. This was the case with the Phonak Paradise that I tried. So I’m really curious about how Oticons perform in this respect. Can you please do a comparison between hands-free and ‘iPhone in hand’? You can do this by leaving a message on you own voicemail with the two methods and compare the recordings.

I wore Oticon More 1 hearing aids before the firmware update. I then switched to Phonak 90 Paradise H/As to see the difference. I loved being able to answer the phone by tapping my ears but then I started to get dropped calls continuously in the middle of conversations. Also, many complaints about background noise. Thinking about sitching back. Also noticed great T coil in the oticon H/A but not any noiceable improvement in the Phonak model. Torn between ease of answering phone and complaints from others re b/g noise. Afraid the Oticons won't really be hands free if you have to hangup on the phone and not by tappiing the hearing aid. Still can't decide! Please do a video comparing the Oticon More and Phonak 90 hands free. Thanks!

I have the Oticon More 1 aids and as it is paired with my Google Pixel 6 phone I can use it hands free by speaking to the phone - answer, play music, stop, hang up. The phone mic is sensitive enough to permit people to hear me when it is in my pocket. Maybe not as easy as tapping but it works. I also have the Connect Clip that I can put on my shirt and talk on the phone, and connect to my computer or TV. IMO, a small price to pay for the excellent overall performance of the Oticon More aids.

Yes, they have that feature already built in. You don't even have to get your phone out, it works via the top button. It is set as default by Phonak but your Audiologist/hearing aid professional could turn it off. You should just try it out. If it works, great, if not have it turned on. Should take like a Minute.
@aztravelguy2 жыл бұрын
Difference in Bluetooth technology. Phonak is relying on Bluetooth (aka Bluetooth Classic), versus Oticon relying on Bluetooth LE (though Phonak uses both, but this gets into the weeds). Limitations exist with BLE, but it's far better with power consumption, hence the name Low Energy. It's that classic version of Bluetooth that makes Phonak devices easily pair two way audio with just about any Bluetooth devices (phones, laptops, etc). Things will improve continuously in the years to come with another Bluetooth protocol that unfortunately has a name ripe for confusion with previous revisions - LE Audio, and the LC3 codec. The future is bright with LE Audio: Imagine going to a movie theater or stage production. Audio is streamed directly into your hearing aids. Instead of telecoil, it's over Bluetooth LE Audio, and everyone with LE Audio devices - whether hearing aids or regular earbuds/headphones - can hear the same thing. That's the potential.

Still frustrated that there's no Android capability. I do not like the Apple ecosystem and won't switch over. Having said that, there's no perfect solution since Phonak's devices don't have that option you point out to toggle auto/left/right/off for microphone use. Fortunately though, for laptop connectivity and Zoom/Teams/WebEx calls, those apps allow selection of a specific microphone connected to the laptop.

Erik, I just got the Kirkland 10.0T hearing aids from Costco. They connect to my Android phone, stream audio and answer phone calls without needing to touch the phone for the call. I do need to touch the phone to start the music streaming, of course. I have not yet found a way to initiate a phone call without touching the phone, but I just got these, so I am still experimenting. I have gotten the HA to connect to my desktop computer which has Bluetooth. Dr. Cliff has a video about the Kirkland HA which you might find interesting. While you are in Costco you can ask about the capabilities of all the HA they carry. I think they told me all their devices now connect with Android, but I am not sure I heard them right on this point. BTW, at my Costco they do perform Real Ear Measurement when they deliver the HA. Hope this helps.

@@jackmortimer329Hi Jack. I'm familiar with the current Kirkland model, which is mostly a rebranded Phonak device. My point was largely that while Oticon anecdotally is a much better hearing device thanks to the neural network, it just isn't an option for me due to the usual catering to Apple users that happens a lot in technology overall. I'm all for Phonak (and Kirkland) being so easy to use with my daily needs (Zoom/Teams work calls). I'm just frustrated that there's no perfect solution for my needs yet. I'll likely end up with Naida Paradise devices soon despite using Bluetooth Classic. I'd really like to give Oticon More a try because anecdotally I believe the quality of audio is better thanks to the neural network. Yet I can't do two way audio to Android or a laptop from Oticon without a "middle man" device, which I already have with my current, older Phonak Naida B devices. Or I'll just wait for LE Audio to be widespread, which will solve a lot of problems.

@@aztravelguy I'm with you - I have reached out to the Google accessibility people since they presumably are in touch with HA manufacturers - to see if there is a hint about when we will see new models with BT5.2/LC3. (I have a 6 Pro - which I waited for because it was going to the latest and greatest ...) It would be nice if Google pushed notifications of changes to their compatibility listings ...
