I wish they would focus on practical AR instead of entertainment AR. Yes it would be cool to fly an airplane or whatever, but the demo that Microsoft showed is what I think is closest to perfect. Help make daily tasks better or easier, make AR a tool, and make entertainment a secondary task. Make it a computer instead of an Xbox. I saw this form factor and got excited until I saw the demo. @soulife83835 жыл бұрын
@@andybaldman is that a real question? You can't think of how practical AR would be beneficial to the average person or home? To start, think of a smaller scale use case, like this, just to start (since you asked about home use): kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4rHc2Wud7N5m80 Now take it outside the home. Imagine the glasses could interact with your phone, or car. Your glasses could be showing you your speed limit, overlay safe driving distances, potential for accidents, pedestrians, a deer, etc. Radar, map & navigation, notifications. Or instead of driving, take a walk or jump on a bike. You can follow those AR walking directions Google recently built into Google Maps. Maybe you're in school studying botony. You could go on a walk and the glasses are identifying plants in real time. Or even insects, birds, etc. Look up synonyms and definitions while reading. As a parent, or woman, the glasses could identify registered sex offenders when you're in a crowded room, such as a bar, club, school, playground, etc. Translating different languages on signs if you're traveling. Inside walking directions in the store so you can go directly to the items you want to buy in the mall or grocery store, and it's checking prices and online sales while you shop. It's endless... But no, instead let's just focus on playing minecraft with AR instead. Or NASA. Do a search on hololens and look how it could be a tool in the workplace too. Look how it is being used in the workplace. Especially with assembly. Which just made me realize Ikea for example could offer QR codes that show you how to assemble that new coffee table you just bought in real time as you're picking up different pieces trying to assemble it..

nReal is one of the most interesting AR/VR startups of this year. Maybe the most interesting one: it has a lightweight glass with a trendy design, a nice field of view and a very good resolution. The price is also very cheap: $500 for the consumer version and $1200 for the devkit. Considering that Magic Leap costs 2 times that price and HoloLens 3 times, this can be really disruptive for augmented reality. It can even enter a bit into the "early majority" segment of the market.

Technology is getting closer and closer to high performance low cost universal HUD systems that can be used to enhance performance and safety of many things. Three things that I'd like to see these developed for: 1) Real time drone display, giving you a pilots eye view from the drones perspective. 2) HUD for vehicle GPS system that puts the "blue line" and upcoming turns out in front of you so you don't have to look down to see it. Vehicle independent, so you use it in anything you are driving, car, motorcycle, bicycle, roller skates, etc.. 3) Aircraft HUD program for sport pilots and even ultra-light pilots. Giving low cost aircraft the IFR capabilities that are currently to expensive for most beginners. Hey... you could IFR with a hang glider or a powered parasail with these.

I think most VR doesn't get it at all. But I think there is something to this. Think for a moment what do you need.. phone, wallet and keys. If you think about it.. your computer is your computer because it computes. If you swap the keyboard out the "brains" of the computer is still the same so its still your computer. In the future.. I think you will own your "data" and computers will do just the computing. This means anyone could pick up any headset and pick up where they left off... same would apply to computers then.. So then you start getting this interesting theories for how computing should work and I think this is brilliant. What if you just have your phone.. and it either connects to a cloud server, or a home server... your connected to your data.. wherever you are. I like to think about xenon girl of the 21st century a disney movie... what if we made a small civilization that was sorta like the space station.. everyone would be provided a "basic" shelter and food rations..and you would get the ability to do more, and get more.. your "data" could be personal, it could be work, it could be education... think about how the data could revolutionize things. Using technologies like ipfs to help anchor data for the applications... because doesnt it seem weird.. that TONS of computers have the exact same programs installed.. like windows itself.. or ios... the exact same data is on so many hard drives just in the os itself.. talk about redundancy. with a small civilization we could probably make that soo much more efficient. I think ar, mr, and vr will all be important to our everyday lives in the future. Imagine heads up displays for everything. I seen some meta thing from facebook where they did workouts with some visualizes with mr that was just nice.. I think everyone will wear glasses in the future all the time. Imagine looking at an item in a store .. and seeing the barcode *boop* you know the price without having to ask or find a price check scanner... Imagine being able to see other places that sell it cheaper even... competition is about to get interesting. Also, there could be something to the whole everyone wearing glasses. If we do that, and have enough sensors we could better understand the world around use. advance ia but also make better maps. record what we see in real time effortlessly. I think that glasses wont replace the phone but be an accessory to it.. I think phones will meerly be personal compute devices or hard drives.. that can run apps but also do text and phone calls.. I think personal devices that are portable.. will be key. chrome books boot quickly.. imagine if they linked to your phone not your google account.. anyone could just use any computer and pick up where they left off... exactly as they left off.. the future will be insane.

i wish they would make a rayban style glasses that are around 300. i would definitely buy this if it was like that cuz even though i love my quest 2 it’s way to uncomfortable for me and glasses like these would leave the quest in the dust but to be fair it would be extremely difficult to make vr glasses as powerful as the quest 2 in such a small form factor as something like rayban style glasses sooo i guess i’ll have to wait like 5-10 more years for VR to get more advanced

All I'm wondering is if they can be used entirely with open source software. Could I plug this into my computer and program my own interface without issue? Or is there something like boatloader locking that creates vendor lock-in? The game footage looks horrible and laggy in 24fps, by the way. Please use 60 fps. 24 fps makes it seem like the game has heavy performance problems, when it actually doesn't. I would really like to see something like Minecraft, but not so square, in VR. It would be really challenging to make a good control scheme for a game like that with normal PC input, but I believe all the degrees of freedom of VR would allow for a pretty usable game.

While mini games would be awesome, like, pong, angry birds, and generally more mobile type experiences. I'd hope that companies would focus more on RL integration. Being able to customize your home, office, car, etc... To be able to interact with specific spaces in a fully customized way. I would get behind a fully integrated system with small hubs that act as storage, and are able to communicate and create a cloud like ecosystem that supports multiple eye wear. Like, for example, storing recipes, grocery lists, reminders, and notes for you and your family to be able to sort through in the kitchen. I think this concept lends to the more physical and natural convenience of sharing info. Like leaving a posted note. Rather than going out of your way to ensure that everyone gets that text. Each hub could function in different ways depending on the context that they are used in. Like, productivity, entertainment, etc... Imagine setting up a hub in your office space. Being able to access all of your files directly at your finger tips. Extending your desktops screen space to your convenience. To your desk, your wall, your ceiling for that matter. Possibilities are endless really. AR is the future, and I can't fucking wait.
@zacozacoify5 жыл бұрын
And then imagine once vr is just AR with the world shut out, when you’re not at home you can still walk through a digital version of your home complete with all your “hubs”, and even physically co-exist with your family who are home as some sort of digital manifestation.
@FlockofSmeagles5 жыл бұрын
@@zacozacoify VR is great for exactly something like that. Soldiers, business people could definitely benefit from something of that nature. AR is more about integration. That's its strong point. Like our phone is an extension of us. AR one day will be too. VR is a creation tool, an experience. AR is a practical extension. That's just my opinion, though.

cant see myself getting any of these devices, i'm probably just getting old, but i don't get it, can't see an actual use for it, I enjoy playing games, but that enjoyment is dependent on the game play, its never been the resolution or the level of detail in the scenery. every now and they i load up dosbox and play a game from the mid 90's because they were fun regardless of how low the graphics resolution was. One of my current favorite games is borderlands 2, got it on the PS3, it was a blast. and even after they migrated it to the PS4 and up'd the level of detail, it didn't make the game any better. too many games these days are so focused on the appearance they neglected to make it fun.
