Primers out of the box are not all the same height, and showing just one is misleading. Case rims are not all the same thickness even within the same lot, so unless the priming tool uses something other that the extractor rim as a measurement datum the priming tool will not set the primers to an even seating depth. These seem to be a toys instead of tools. The plunger doing the seating needs a stop shoulder that rises along with the ram. The stop shoulder sets the seating depth and usually the adjustment is done with shims. Even if you can set a seating depth accurately, some primers would be crushed more than others.

Didn’t even think about that. But im sure plenty of people will argue that they are all the same height.

I have a Lee classic loader, I literally resize the neck, and hammer my primers in with a rubber mallet, before I weigh every charge, and I print leaf clovers at 100, and rabbits at 300. I don't know who this is for, but for all that measuring and accurizing they should be hitting quarters beyond the horizon.

I’d like to see a follow up testing what this means for consistency / SD / Velocity between measuring “accuracy” down range and how this can help. Or hinder.

There is always more than one way to do a particular job. Some are better/easier than others. I have the CPS Priming tool and it's amazing. BY FAR the best tool Ive used for that job, and I've tried a few various tools over the past 25 years. I don't have the depth checker yet but will be getting one soon.

With my Lee classic loader, and a rubber mallet I only have one depth and it's called "flush". Leaf clovers are 100 no problem. Somebody's gotta make money from those who are too stupid to part with it.

I have the Accuracy One depth checker, which I use a lot. Greg stated the "cutting" brass would destroy it. But this way, every primer and pocket would need to be measured. I get a average on both and do 2 to 4k crush. I shoot PRS and I average .25 MOA. I like the primer seater but 650 is just crazy. I have used a RCBS bench mounted primer for 20+ years, My groups got better from trigger time and a better rifle setup. This seems to be a setup for "Toppers". but I wish the best for people that can afford it .... money and time. Do like your reviews

Recently I discovered the differences in primer seating depth. In the interest of uniformity and consistency in reloads I purchased a Harbor Freight guage and 3D printed an adapter to manually test for proper seating depth. These bench models you showed in this video work similarly. I never even knew that this tool was available or I would not have gone through the trouble of making my own. Thanks for the explanation and demonstration of its use.

Are there any tools to measure the primer pocket depth in relation to the inside edge of the case rim? Considering that the CPS indexes on the inside edge of the rim, any variation there will directly impac thet primers final depth.

I bought one of Greg's early models of the CPS. CPS Lite, they mounted in a standard press 7/8x14 threads and I have punched in thousands of primers with it. As soon as I got it I built a primer pocket measuring tool similar to a PrimeWhere both digital and dial versions. I wouldn't mind having an upgrade CPS they are great for high volume priming the Lite version is a little more difficult to adjust and are no longer available. I did some mods on mine to make it easier to adjust. The PrimeWhere is a substantial amount but what nowadays isn't?

One thing you missed, and a great reason to get the more expensive version, is the app that keeps a log of measurements. Plus its easier to look at an iPhone than looking down at a dial that is perpendicular to your bench.

I've got the digital version with the base, and it simply won't hold the micrometer across measuring 10 cases. The base was a waste of money for me. It's definitely helped me get consistent seating depth, and able to separate my cases based on that seating depth since that affects ignition timing. I just wish he'd made the block holding clamp with a deeper set of clamps so it would accommodate the thicker digital indicator and a mounting wings on the base.

Why pay extra for ribeye steak when McDonalds will sell you a cheeseburger for $1.99? Using your logic, ribeye's are not needed because I can buy cow meat cheaper from McDonalds. Does the RCBS get the job done? Yes. Is the CPS WAY WAY better? Also yes. If it was the same price as the RCBS, 100 out of 100 people would pick the Primal Rights tool. So the real question: is it worth $600? That's a personal question for each individual to answer for themselves. I have one and have no regrets on the cost. But make no mistake it IS the ribeye to McDonalds dollar menu greaseball burger.

Yeah this is where you start seeing the least return on your buck right here. Per dollar spent the improvement on consistency for primer depth is not nearly that of a set of Redding type S dies or a good press. Last time I checked we were going into a recession. If you have the cash go for it... but this just doesn't make any damn sense. Especially the 3d printed ones.

To be honest, I’ve got better things to do with my life than go through all that, just to seat a primer. I’ve yet to add “I missed because my primers were a thou off the optimum seating depth” to the 12 Volume epic, “The Bumper Book of Excuses” (now available in Braile). My Mk1 digits attached to my palms are super accurate and consistent at feeling how well my primers are seated, so I’ll carry on with my ever faithful Lee and Hornady hand priming tools; they’ve never let me down.

Yeah, nah, sorry. This solves no problems other than how to extract the most amount of funds from the pockets of rubes and transfer those funds to Primal Rights. I want to see one reputable channel shoot various benchrest disciplines and see what difference is made between varying primer heights. Then use a cheap Lee Autoprime or an RCBS universal hand primer and compare results. I've been reloading ever more accurate ammo for 23 years and this is some serious snake-oil case lube to be carried in my carpet reloading bag. What say you Gav ? Will you take the Pepsi Challenge ?

Ok, it's a slick instrument. But the asking price is absolutely obscene. Period. You can buy a Chinese depth mic for a fraction of the cost and be just as accurate. Or just use the caliper already on the bench and be accurate enough.

But if you ever watch his videos you would know that he is all knowing all mighty ammo loader. He has even gone so far as to say that if you don't agree with him or have your own opinion that you will be banned from his comment section! I'm no mental health professional but that sounds like a cry for help. Primal mentality.

Id need to be retired to have the time to use this. its like opening pandora's box for a whole new set of problems. i think you'd be constantly adjusting the primer seater tool for variations in brass primer depth anomalies. I think time invested would out weight the benefits for me anyways. being Its aimed at bench rest F class shooters. For me the biggest gain was when i switched to mandrels for neck sizing.
To Crush, or Not to Crush, that is the question.
