I've always been a fan of the Microsoft Surface devices, but these new MacBook Pros are SO cool. Mainly, I just think it would be a cool pair with my iPhone or even an iPad Pro. PLUS the iPhone screen mirroring?? How cool is that! The Snapdragon Windows Laptop is definitely cool, and ARM processors are getting wild, but I think I like the MacBook Pros more!

I noticed 2 small things I'd like to add: -The book4 edge doesn't use nvme storage. It used eUFS. -The X1E-80-100 is not the the snapdragon x elite the smaller book4 edge 14" comes with. The bigger 16"-pro version comes with the X1E-84-100. That one has slightly higher clocks. I understand why you went with the smaller 14" version, just would've been nice if you mentioned that.

@nicoarcenas X Plus and X Elite are fine but each chip has multiple variants that aren't easily distinguished by laptop manufacturers because they are the same physical chip with different silicon bins. If they named it X Elite 3, X Elite 5, X Elite 7, and X Elite 9 or something then it would be easier for the typical consumer to see what they are buying.

I'm really impressed with snapdragon. Since iPad Pro can't run Mac apps, I'm now more interested in new Surface Pro, which runs full Windows and I can install all applications that I need. Since MacOS is too much to ask for, I wish I could install any Mac apps on iPad.

The Snapdragon cores are not as good (see single core performance), they make up for it by adding more cores with no efficiency cores, and the Macbook shown also has ~25% more battery capacity than the Samsung product shown Would expect it to fall short on battery life comparison which is a huge factor for this type of portable device

You need to be comparing the regular (X1-80-100) Qualcomm X Elite chipset (coming soon) against the Apple M4 "PRO" chipset (also coming soon). Or against the AMD Ryzen 9-365 (35W) notebook processor. Or the Intel Core Ultra 7 265U (28W) upcoming notebook processor. These are all roughly equal in size and power draw. All of which are coming soon and competing head to head in 2024/2025. Or compare the Qualcomm X Plus chipset (coming soon) against the Apple M4 "pro" chipset (also coming soon). Or against the same AMD Ryzen 9-365 processor but (15W) lower laptop frequency. Or the same Intel Ultra 7 265U (15W) lower clocked notebook processor. Again these are all direct competitors. It's not really fair comparing an older chipset against a new or upcoming one. With the likes of the Apple M3 actually being an "M2+" in disguise and not a proper upgrade like we saw in the M4 architecture.

Very nice comparison Matt!! The snapdragon X Elite is really impressive, these chips definitely gives a hare time to M3 chips but when M4 Macbooks will roll out they will be having an edge over snapdragon chips at the end i will go with M4 chips as they are very well integrated with hardware...

The M3 GPU is pretty impressive considering those gaming benchmarks have to translate not only the CPU instructions but also the GPU instructions. The Snapdragon chip only has to translate CPU indirections.

Apple Gptk works like proton steam deck and does not effect gpu performance and is proven by "digital foundry" video of gptk where gptk was performing better than native, this is 3.4ghz version with 3.8 tflop gpu and not the 4.6 tflops gpu of full 4.3ghz version. X elite gpu is on par with m4 10 core gpu which 4.6 tflop gpu

When i started college i sold my notebook to buy an iPad Pro, thinking that it would be my all in one device. Wel.. i learned that it can’t actually replace a true notebook, so now I’m trying to sell it to buy a MacBook Air m1 and a cheaper iPad. Hi Matt, great comparison. A lot closer than I expected! I'm contemplating getting an M4 Mac Studio in the future, using DaVinci resolve and adobe apps. I also do live audio production. A mac laptop would be a future investment for that rig. I currently have a used M2 mac mini in a rack to handle some of that work. I migrated to PC for my daily drivers back in 2019 when I felt like Apple wasnt caring about the creative any more, or about people who want to repair their own gear.... Well, one of those two things has been addressed ....😅
