Amazing conversation. Teachers and their students deserve so much more than they get. I'll need to check out his stand up!

We used to have a snake as a class pet in the 3rd grade and we would sit in a circle to watch it feed. One of my favorite elementary memories😭

Wtf America? Teach the children for free, no money, for a year?????? Why? In Australia you have to do a rural placement, but you get paid (probably not enough though).

The discussion on student teaching gave me war flashbacks honestly. Not Michigan, but Ohio here. It’s the same. It’s fucking awful. Just like Russell, student teaching is what got me out of teaching. The anxiety was absolutely unbearable and I had to literally leave college. God. The late-night 3 hour seminars AFTER a full day of teaching. The PRAXIS. The EDTPA. Vomit.

In my very liberal college town, with a very liberal and greatest public school district, my mom works at the richest whitest elementary school and almost all her workers are hard core Republicans. So not only does she have to deal with the problem kids and lunch and recess, she has to deal with pro-trump adults. She has the patience of a saint truly.

At least she has the children if she wants to have an intellectual conversation ;)

also note to the editors (gianmarco? lol) - can you PLEASE invert/flip the center panel horizontally?? at first i thought it was a fluke but it always looks like the guest is just flat out ignoring whoever is talking 😂 unless it’s supposed to be annoying on purpose because… idk downside i guess? lol thank you 🙏

LOL the look in joe’s eyes as russell tells that story around the 28:00 mark… like deeply impressed and maybe a little turned on 😂

i was a teacher for a while, only in preschool but the part about having no wiggle room and a huge target on your back at all times is so accurate, anytime the district people came and found a problem with the school the teachers were ALWAYS without fail blamed first

As a northern New Yorker I really identify with the use of the word crick. And I also went to Potsdam! Even better, I saw Joe here in Buffalo NY where I live now, and he killed. Speaking of Buffalo, we have the most Disney adults per capita in the continental United States and I second everything Joe says about Disney.

Oh man, it's such a hot topic, teaching. Joe, your experience, of course, gives you the knowledge what teachers need to earn. I never understood why schools keep getting defunded and then bitch about the problem.

1:02:33 Kind of similar thing for me. I obviously knew by 7th grade Santa wasn’t real but my mom is one of those Christmas crazies and she refused to admit it. During one of my 7th grade classes, the teacher was talking about childhood disappointments and she brought up when you’re told Santa isn’t real, lol. And I immediately told my mom- “see I told you!” She wasn’t happy about it, lol, but come on!
