Does it actually heat the living room?

If you plug it into a 120v wall outlet, it provides the same warmth as a space heater. If it’s the only source of heat in the room, I’d suggest hard wiring it with a dedicated 240-volt circuit.

Great video! FYI you do not need to take it apart to disconnect the top rear lights. From the access panel you can disconnect the red cable. It does indeed look better without them. The top front lights on color 2 with high flicker looks stunning.

I find that my 30" model fan is very loud. It would have been nice to have a speed adjustment that would adjust to a quieter speed setting (even though that might also necessitate reducing the heat output as well). Nice option for me.

Are the logs the same size on each model? Seems like the logs in the 42” model look really small compared to the firebox.

There are different size logs. But they are matched to the unit so you can’t put in a bigger log.

Interesting! I unfortunately bought a realflame impulsively and am not happy with the plastic-y looking logs. I wonder if I could unscrew it and use a mirrored spray paint on the back to help the flame have more of a reflective look, as well as adding some other real logs to help cover it up.

Perhaps just spray the logs with flat clear Mod Podge to minimize the plastic look.

NICE REVIEW! I received our dimplex revillusion. I was disappointed to learn that the flame speeds are not adjustable. Is this a discontinued feature? Also the factory glued both sides of the magnets on the side panels so they are not removable without having to almost pry them off the sides. Then it suddenly the fireplace stopped working, i checked all possible electrical issues from the panel to the fireplace.... it's certainly a problem in the unit.. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I’m sorry to hear this. I don’t understand how they expect you to screw it in without removable side panels. But I wouldn’t care about the adjustable flame speed. Any slower would surely seem fake.

@@handydadtv I agree, I wish I can make the flame go faster. I contacted the retailer and we are working through Dimplex to get a new one sent. Guess I got a lemon...???

With the back led disabled it looks more real to me. It looks more like there's a chimney shadow there now. I like that fire with the fresh cut logs but I'd prefer the standard logs. There's no way I could afford €2,000 for that though. I would love it if I could afford it. I'm waiting for a much cheaper dimplex Cheriton deluxe which I got at nearly a 66% discount from a returned unit at Amazon UK. I haven't had a real fireplace with almost 2 years and I miss having some sort of fire in my sitting room.

Does this Dimplex have any fireplace crackling sound effect? By the way detaching the other LEDs makes it look a lot better a fireplace should have a little Darkness to it nice job and review

Hi ...is it normally this noisy when the blower is on?...we find it very noisy when we turn it on to heat....other than that it is a stunning unit...

All blowers make noise regardless of which fireplace you get.

I kind of want to build one from scratch. Getting the logs to be transparent would be the hardest part. But at least you could integrate the leds into home assistant

Yeah I’d like to use a smart plug but it won’t go on like that. Probably a safety feature so the heat doesn’t come on after a power outage.

Thanks for the video! I have been looking for a while and debating the Demolex Revillusion or the modem flames redstone. I did go with the modern flames and got it installed today. Honestly, overall, I'm not a fan and wish would have went w the dimplex revillusion. What is your take on these two units??

I’m sorry you’re conflicted about your decision. It’s a horrible feeling to second guess an expensive choice like this. Unfortunately, I have no experience with Modern Flames so I can’t comment. FWIW, I’m going to tell you what I’d tell my own kids. Unless you’ve got serious F. U. money to rip it out, sell it at a loss, and replace it with the Dimplex, I suggest you stop beating yourself up and just learn to like what you have. It’s still a nice fireplace from what I’ve seen.

BTW, I always recommend having the unit on site before you start framing. It doesn’t take long to ship. You never know if something will be back ordered or discontinued. I’d hate to see you have to modify it for a different product.

Thanks for the review. We are considering this unit for the lake house but I've seen a few reviews that state that the fan is noisy. Is that your experience? We are likely to do the 220v wiring to get more heating capacity. Will that make the fan even more noisy?

I’ve never heard a quiet blower in a fireplace. Even the gas fireplace in my old house had a blower that made noise. It’s not so noisy that we can’t watch TV or have a conversation. I think it’s normal. I doubt the blower will be louder with 240 volts, but I can’t be sure because I never tried it. Both of my installs were 120v.

As someone who used this (new version) last winter I can confirm it's extremely noisy. My old Dimplex Revillusion from 2018 was way quieter with the heat and fan/motor on, and it was hard wired to 240v. Something is different now with the production of these, and they are manufactured in China. The blower makes a loud whiring/whining sound after being in use more than 10 minutes & it's ear splitting making it not enjoyable to use the heater on it.

My new one installed last week due to a noisy deffective unit doesn't have the red or blue interior lighting under the logs. I heard dimplex recently removed this feature which is annoying because I liked the blue lighting. Also the motor blower when heater is in use is now extremely loud compared to my old model from 2018 making it unbearable to use. They aren't being made as good as they were 5 years ago. I feel I wasted a lot of money and now its useless as a heat source.

$2,000 is a bit expensive I'd rather throw 2 grand at a natural gas insert our less expensive dining room natural gas unit was around 2 grand and our most realistic that doesn't need power if you set it up that way since it's got a battery box FOR 4 AA battery's so in a power outtage we can heat most of the house with the 2 fireplaces in a grid down situation you have no heat

I seriously considered gas but they’re much more expensive than $2,000 these days. Add the hassle of running a gas line (I don’t have a basement) and pain of venting through the roof (it’s not an exterior wall). That’s why I went with electric. The side benefit is I can use it year round and don’t need to worry about little hands getting burned.

Gas fireplace inserts are way more than $2k. I had one installed Jan 2022 and it was over $7000 including unit, chimney inspection and cleaning and installation.
