Realistic Electric Fireplaces: 3 Types, Mistakes & Top Brands

Excellent overview. Exactly what we were looking for as an entry into electric (vs gas) fireplaces. The focus on "Realistic" is what is important to us. What are you trying to show with a purple flame coming from pieces of broken glass ? Suspect you would lose interest quickly. Is the 'flame' from LED models just repeating the same thing? Isnt a random pattern important for realism? Some mention of heat available including quiet operation would be desirable.

Thank you! Realistic looks is important to so many customers considering electric fireplaces. Let me try to answer your questions. I think the purple flame coming from pieces of broken glass you are referring to is the video showing Dimplex Optimyst water vapor fireplace. It was just demonstrating that the fireplace also has multicolor flame options aside from the standard realistic orange. Believe it or not, some people like it :) I agree with you, random pattern is another thing that is important for realism. LED electric fireplaces have been trying to achieve it with various degree of success but water vapor and virtual electric fireplaces are much better at it. Heat and noise: most electric fireplaces heat 450-1000 sq ft depending on the model and wiring (120 vs 240). They are quiet when the heat is off but when you turn on that heater you hear the blower, not super loud but you hear it.

Nothing is wrong with Magic Flame virtual fireplaces as far as I know but I have not seen them in person to judge the flame effect and I don't know enough about the brand to judge the quality. This is why I'm not recommending them in this video.
