The beauty of living in the city is being surrounded and exposed to different people and cultures. And also the extreme convenience of having everything you need within walking distance. It sure beats country/small town living. Not enough exposure/experience will lead to fear and assumptions. Which is what I pick up for you comment here. A visit to a city is certainly not comparable to living in it.

I was a city dweller for a long time and am now in a smaller nearby city, pretty much a mixture of urban/suburban/rural in the immediate area. I don't miss so many things about being in major cities and it's nice working on people's houses without having a million crackheads up your ass every second, but I could never do living far out in the middle of nowhere as I still need civilization and culture and close proximity to stuff happening, etc. But god I sure do love not having to worry about moving my car for street sweepers.

Mountains- Rainier, Baker, St. Helens, Adams, and Olympus. The San Juan Islands. Puget Sound. Monte Cristo. Old Robe Trail with railroad tunnels. The piers. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dogs, Jimi Hendrix, The Foo Fighters, Mad Season, Alice in Chains, Screaming Trees and SoundGarden. The Experience Music Project. The Space Needle. Gas Works Park. When I think of Michigan I see a rough paved I-75 rolling through shit town after shit town. Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village are the two main attractions I would visit to see again.
