That smoke detector beep would drive me crazy! I have had in my house single phase and 1/2 the house was without power had a bad wire underground below the meter. Also them outlets could be controlled by another GFCI maybe an outside outlet. My GFCI in the garage controls the powder room and upstairs main bath outlets.

Brian, are you certain you are working on the correct breaker? I didn't see your tester lights come on at all in the kitchen when you swapped the wire to the other breaker. Didn't the lady say it was the 2nd from bottom?
@DrD64524 ай бұрын
That's what I heard too, second from the bottom.
@thehandymanexperience2264 ай бұрын
I could of missed it not everyone knows what their talking about. I should have checked the bottom, but found that breaker that wasn't working and got thrown off. But I believe that was the wire that fed the circuit I was trying to fix
@timcullerton23924 ай бұрын
Pull the GFCI breaker by the toaster and see if its wired correctly...the dead outlets are "probably" fed from the load terminals of that gfci...try removing and bypassing the gfci outlet altogether and wire direct to the hot going towards the panel. If they are still dead then check for another tripped gfci (outside or bathroom outlet) like anothe viewer said in an earlier comment. Maybe the gfci outlet itself is bad. Also try tripping the gfci outlet and reset it.
@thehandymanexperience2264 ай бұрын
The gfci was on a different circuit, there are 2 circuits that feed kitchen counters
@nyczyang274 ай бұрын
I just fixed something very similar to this issue. It turns out one of the outlets that feeds a few others, backstabbed wire came undone. You need to check all of the outlets including the working ones my friend. (If your not testing, your guessing)
@thehandymanexperience2264 ай бұрын
I found the home run, and there was no power on the other end.
@nyczyang274 ай бұрын
So it was a bad home run outlet?
@cndream14 ай бұрын
She said second breaker from the bottom. Did you check that one? Also I would look for a secondary GFI are there outside or in the bathroom to see if they control that circuit. Also did you pull the GFI in the kitchen and check that wiring ?
@thehandymanexperience2264 ай бұрын
I didn't check the 2nd from the bottom since it didn't stand out to me. It want labeled kitchen. The ones I was working on were labeled kitchen. I checked the outside gfci but didn't check the bathroom. I wasn't sure if there was another junction. I could be totally wrong, but the breaker I changed was bad . I listen to the tenants only so much. I pulled the working gfci out to find the home run to the panel the blue wire died there. It didn't go to gfci it just passed through box
@throttlebottle59064 ай бұрын
not sure of the age/builder, but it was common to have an outdoor receptacle (front or rear) tied to the kitchen circuit. simply a cost cutting measure to save GFCI, wiring and circuits. good enough to meet code(one at front, one at rear). we did that in new construction in the mid 90's, also garage off 1st floor powder room gfci, sometimes other outdoor receptacles off other bathroom GFCI. still seen it done in 2010+ homes with AFCI/GFCI in panels, they just dangle the front and rear off whatever general lighting circuit is closest.

Before an electrician arrives to troubleshoot and/or fix anything for me I clear out everything around the trouble circuit so I'm paying the electrician $80/hour to move my shit out of the way.

probably hits the hallway outlet by door (with air freshener plugged in) and maybe other in hallway back towards the panel. likely pulled through and spliced through others along the way too. the fault must have cleared itself when resetting the breaker before, probably a wire nut off somewhere or a device screw nicked into it inside a box. **also, don't think you checked the vent hood, hard to say what circuit it's cobbled onto. lol

Yea you were I'm a situation we're there isn't a good answer call a electrician company and have them excavate half the house or abandon it and run new. We all get thoes jobs it's like cast iron drains/plumbing. If they have cast I will not guarantee it will be fixed period. Keepem comming thanks for the treat!

ok at 16:31, if they ran rigid conduit and transitioned to emt in kitchen, they probably converted from rigid to emt at the panel end also, so somewhere in garage or near is splice boxes or trough. I did see a blank cover below panel at one point, but that certainly wouldn't be big enough. maybe buried in wall or behind junk in garage? it sure won't pull if it's spliced or goes through boxes at angles.
@thehandymanexperience2263 ай бұрын
