Whether you realized it or not Handyman, the motor head swap was the best thing you could do. Liftmaster is the professional line of Chamberlain. The single piece T-Rail for the trolley is the main difference to the piece together square rail that is for Chamberlain (so it can fit into a box on a shelf). A fun trick to know about remotes on those is the color of the wire hanging out is the antenna, the remotes from older ones cannot work the new ones (different freq band). That said, they do make universals that work all Chamberlain products in one remote. As usual, even from a garage door guys perspective you doing the right thing :)

That's effed up people return their 20 years used stuff in new boxes. The fact that property managers tell guys to do it and then THEY DO IT. I'm so mad, I can't even.

It's a huge problem for large box stores. Amazon too, esp. They just don't have the employee manpower & time to thoroughly inspect every return. And many employees wouldn't even know what to look for.

Imagine doing multiple small jobs on a house, been there at least 5 hours, and at the very end they say “put it back and return it” and they’re expecting like $130 to return, if you don’t do it you might not get payed at least $130 of that job, or at all, sadly some people start off like that for a while and when they can take a hit of not accepting a job they’ll do it

Im a Jack of all and Mariner by trade. I appreciate all your vids! I just became a garage door installer and a couple customers want new motors installed. I stumbled across you! An old friend in the garage door business just trained me to do doors because he's tired of installing, just sells doors now. So now I subcontract for him and can install my own contracts. Its nice to work for yourself. If i'm going to be miserable, it'll be for myself hahahaha.

Excellent summary of how to change your garage door motor. I thought it was kind of hard to do, but the way you make it that simple. If I ever need to do it now I know and I won't take the old motor back to Home Depot that's a No-No.

I did this yesterday. I was pleased that I was able to retrofit with no modification. I was surprised that it didn't work by the doorbell switches after head replacement and adjustment. I did not know that the doorbell switches were now not actual switches. It came with only 1 883LM switch. Having trouble finding another right away. Want to fix it today. My 89 year old mother has one switch upstairs and another inside the garage by the door. Currently, a remote is installed upstairs until I can get the digital switch. My mother's is so old that the wires were screwed in place. Only 3 screws using a common ground. So glad I didn't have to remove the chain bar.

What does suck though is when home depot carries a tool, you buy it. Use it 4 times then it craps out and you need it for a job that you are doing that day and they discontinue that particular brand you bought (or just dont carry it anymore). They switch to another brand. Then your stuck buying a new one after a couple of uses or contacting the manufacturer for a replacement when its something you need that day

Good to see a low-cost unit working so well! 👍 Did it come with an exterior keypad? (My 1995 Chamberlain LM is worn-out wonky too & last week somehow switched to "vacation safety lock" mode. (Or I did it, not sure how.) Just have to climb up & play with the re-set buttons to unlock it. If I can't reset it, I'll replace it with this model. (Single car door.) Expected the cost to be much higher. Thank you Handyman, for your impeccable tutorial & timing :)

Just a quick note on some higher-end garage door openers folks may not know about... Some are quieter (belt drive), some have battery backup (useful if you live where there's frequent power outages), and some are faster (DC motor units). In the end, the garage door goes up and down. I saw a DC motor, belt drive unit once that impressed me. Starts off slow, speeds up in the middle and slows down again near the top. And it was quiet; desirable if people occupy a room over the door opener. The higher speed can add minutes or hours to your life if you wait for your garage door much. YMMV. This is not an ad, I don't remember the brand.

If the old remotes have dip switches, they probably wont work. Most new openers use rolling code so nefarious individuals can't sniff your remote frequency and get in your garage.

So actually you did everything pretty right just to let you know you disengage your garage door from the opener and when the doors in the closed position make sure the chain is 1/2 inch above the rail in the center to eliminate a lot of the chain noise

The Handyman i was under the impression that if you line up the dip switches to match the new opener the old clickers would work. The problem I have seen is that sometimes when people install ceiling fan with remotes, the frequencies get crossed and they end up opening the neighbors garages! And when the neighbors open the garage doors the ceiling fan turns on/stops or the lights come on!
