i was wondering why chinese don’t dress up too! i believe the reason why we don’t wear hanfu for special occasions anymore is simply because of how many times china changed hands in terms of government before the cultural revolution in the 1900s and the results of all those changes. throughout chinese history traditional clothing has been shunned, then celebrated, then shunned again in favor of modernism. and i guess there was never enough want from the public to establish such a tradition. i only wore 旗袍 maybe once as a toddler - 汉服 is just so beautiful.

I agree, and clothing is a major part of expressing this. I am happy that China is trying to implement traditional values and attire into the modern world. I hope that they can eventually make it into an alternative to western clothing (which is often called ‘modern clothing’, which I find sad). China often talks about wanting to be a counterweight to the US (as a culture and civilization), and this I feel is a step in the right direction.

I have even started to collect a few hanfu and I wear them often because my hanfu make me so happy when I where them. I can understand what those girls were saying about feeling more confident when they where hanfu because I feel the same when i wear mine. Though I don't feel confident enough to wear mine to my college. I feel like it would stand out too much and distract my classmates if I wear full hanfu. But I sometimes wear just the skirt or just the shirt from a hanfu set with more modern clothes in situations when I feel like I can't war full, proper hanfu. . For those who’s confused, This clothes in video is Hanfu not Hanbok. Let me teach ppl how to distinguish Hanbok and Hanfu. Hanbok has a super rounded skirt that give them pregnancy vibe. Hanbok has a tight small cuff + huge round skirt that belted at high waist , plus, Hanbok has no outer coat. According to history, Hanbok is usually white and made with cotton bc ancient Korea lack resources to make any color and obviously they can’t afford silk. Hanfu on the other hand, has more slim figure and are easy to move around. Hanfu have a outer coat + huge cuff and skirt that are much flowy and slim (in which I mean no round shape). Based on the history , Hanfu usually has more color due to prosperous of Chinese empire in ancient time (Tamg dynasty Hanfu usually made with red color while Ming made with yellow). Obviously, they’re made with silk (however modern Hanfu is more or less made with cotton). In conclusion, all u need to remember is that Hanbok has no coat and has a super round skirt. Chinese Hanfu has outer coat and a slim flowy skirt. You know for someone who’s kept bragging about your Korean culture, you Korean sure does not know anything about your own heritage. Even I know how to distinguish Hanbok from Hanfu, while you Korean even claim Tang dynasties Hanfu as Korean, are you guys blind or what. (BTW here is a fun history lesson, Korea was once vessel state of China in Han, Tang and Ming dynasties, Korea has been a tributary state of China in a very long time, they even called China the “master country” (宗主国)before Qing dynasties came. so it make sense for China to exerted influence on Korea, just like what British did to India, Japan did to Korea in WWII and US to Korea after Cold War.

These girls are truly blessed to find the interest of Hanfu. Now they can wear it as much as they want. It's important that the Chinese goverment should avoid creating a toxic fashion culture and to focus on actively promoting Chinese clothes as a cultural institute, while maintaining fashion tolerance regardless of clothing for the people, not teaching shame or banning any clothes with possible regret.

Because Chinese has been slaved by Manchu, many Chinese are still using Manchu culture to representing themself. Try to image some Jews people using Nazi to represent themself, do you think it's acceptable.

Cheongsam from Qing is different from modern Cheongsam, the modern one is westernized and has less layers
