This takes me back, out of me & four other friends who started training. I was the only one to finish & take my first solo. Like this, I had a magic flight. An eagle rode my wing tip for about 3 mins, I really truly was flying with the birds. The start wasn't so great, an experienced flyer was up before me. He took off & focused too much on getting into his bag & eventually crashed halfway down the mountain. I had to wait for the area to clear after a rescue chopper lifted him out. I was the next after witnessing this, but I focused on my training & as stated had a magic flight. I heard later he had broken his pelvis & was back flying. I did hang gliding for 5 wonderful years, tried sky diving, but ended up scuba diving. At 53, I'm still scuba diving, but have a hankering to get back in the sky. If you made it through the to the end, thanks for reading my little story. ✌🏽️

Titus Cato Yes I read it all! Thanks for sharing. I also do a bit of scuba diving and am learning skydiving. But hang gliding remains my favourite! After four years I’m still flying; see kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4mvaGSeeb2gaMk

He also read to the end, and your story proves that flying must be treated with respect. As the pilot begins to think that he knows and knows everything, or that he always achieves what he wants without the necessary reserve and replacement plan, he is destined to perish. Today I fly by motor, but the experience with the glider has helped me many times to solve situations with an overview.

Nice upload. What a great place to fly too. It's been 30 years since I've hang glided but still, those early days of learning on a small hill rank as some of the most fun and rewarding and thrilling of all the flights I did. As I'm sure you know, the first time your feet leave the ground, even by just a foot or two, is thrilling. Liked!

Nice. 1st flight off a big hill is always memorable. Your luck to have it on video. For those wanting to "try" it. Please understand that it is a LOT OF WORK to get to that point. The easiest way is to go to a coastal site with super smooth wind and sand to bonk into!
@Leonardokite
@Leonardokite 7 жыл бұрын
+Allen Ayler What I wanted to convey is that it is not really something you just try (unless on a coastal dune site as I mentioned) It does take a lot of work! Primarily in the beginning when you walk the kite up the hill.....do a quick takeoff/landing (bunny hop) and then do it again. Each time getting further up the hill requiring even more work. It really takes commitment and desire. I've seen many "try" it and get tired and frustrated very quickly. I think what ruins peeps is telling them it's easy and then when they fail they think it is them.
@matejlj
@matejlj 7 жыл бұрын
Is this much harder than paragliding? Cause paragliding is really not that hard. Actually you can learn the basics of flying in one day. You could theoretically fly from a big hill in the second day of trining, if everthing is smooth (the weather, the wind, the surface, etc) Of course to be a safe paraglider, and to know how to avoid unpredictable things, there is a lot of training to do. But the tehniques of flying are very simple, and easy to learn. All you need is some practice, to get a proper fealing of the parashute.
@MrPennenridder
@MrPennenridder 7 жыл бұрын
Matej Bukovec Hi! Yes, this seems te be harder. The hangglider is heavier, flies faster and is more difficult to start. It is big fun though!
@flying-oyvinator
@flying-oyvinator 7 жыл бұрын
well leonardokite.. it does actually take a bit of work.. first up one needs to be in reasonable health and have a bit of stamina.. one needs to be able to run for quite some distance.. when i took my paraglider course a couple of weeks ago, it said i had to be able to carry a 20 kilogram bag up a mountain.. wich i can do.. however, it wasnt nearly close to what you need to be able to do.. you should have the ability to jog for 2 kilometers without any issue.. you need to sprint against the wind with an object that resists you.. for half a minute or more!! it isnt easy! but this is the paragliding portion of flying..

@MrPennenridder
@MrPennenridder 8 жыл бұрын
Karlis Vitols Hi! Thanks for your nice comment! Braking the hangglider is done by tilting the kite; by (kinda) flying upwards... This is done by pushing the 'A-frame' outwards. Normally you pull it towards you to make speed.

Terry Knutson Thank you! Yes, we do carry an emergency chute. Thankfully I never had to use it! You can see the chute very clearly on my latest video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4mvaGSeeb2gaMk. It is the big bulk on my chest in the harnass.
@MrPennenridder
@MrPennenridder 5 жыл бұрын
@Quincy Breed Though there is an emergency chute you hope never to find yourself in a situation you have to pull it. If so: you're in trouble and things are going to break. Hopefully that'll only be the glider. And if you have to pull, you throw it as far sideways as you can. It's a life saver; not made for comfort.

I learned hanggliding 40 years ago. First sweaty on the beginner's hill and then from the Swiss mountains. First in the Jura, then in the Alps. But it was an expensive and time-consuming sport, so I stopped after 12 years. In the meantime, I had a family with 3 small children. At the age of almost 50 and with 3 active teenagers, we learned windsurfing together - in the Netherlands. My respect to all those who are still learning this great sport today. For me, it was a great time.

During our last course, last august, we had a 73-year old (!) student who made his first solo flight in 30 (!) years... Still interested? Send me a message! 🤙🏻

Have you ever made Jesus your Lord and savior? Jesus offers you His Righteousness as a gift He will wash you completely Clean from ALL your sins and wants you to Come to him it says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Meaning the punishment for our sins is Hell Because we are not obedient to God. But Jesus was completely obedient to God He went to the cross to die for us and now we do not trust in our obedience but His it says, “Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.” Gods wrath and Judgment went on Jesus Because He was carrying our sins so God treated Him like the worst sinner now God will Justly treat you like you have never sinned after you believe upon Him so when the blood of Jesus is over you God cannot treat you like a sinner! He never wants to but now He can Justly treat you like you never sinned Jesus was our sacrifice for our sins! Tell God you admit your a sinner and ask Him to wash you with His blood and receive His Gift of righteousness. Come out of darkness and into light! it’s your part to receive Jesus to believe upon Him. It says, “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” Don’t think it’s not wrong to sin -because He loves us.

Hi mick, you guys are outstanding, everything well organized, it shows everything as is so exciting with a clear view as if you were flying yourself, a few details that I didn't see or hear was the average time required in between to fly it yourself, here in Puerto Rico there is a place that where people go but is a little far from me, it possible is over hundred miles on way to get there, most kind of you to organize all that and bring it to us.

Jesus Torres Hi Jesus! Thanks for the reply! There is no average time for starting to learn to get to fly solo. Some people take a few seasons; for me it took only nine days (which was very fast). It all depends on physical condition, restraint and bravery. This video is now five years old. I have become an instructor myself; for the same school I’ve learned flying. If you ever get to come to Europe let me know! Have you seen my newer vids? For instance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4mvaGSeeb2gaMk Always stay safe!

Hey, and a stand up landing. My first high flight in the 70's was in 4 - 1 L/D (standard) in a swing seat. I'm looking down from 800' trying to decide if I really like this. Guess I did as I stuck with that sport for over 10 years. Flew in all the western states plus Canada, (World Championships) Mexico and Hawaii. Great sport, I miss it. Got into airplanes (Long EZ) and learned how really spend money.
