Hi Robert, these guys were real pioneers! thanks for taking the time to remaster the film, I think the result was worth the effort. Gave me a shiver watching the take-offs!

Thanks for taking the time to recreate this video! I’m an older guy who’s only been flying for 5-6 years. I love watching videos of the early days and reminiscing of seeing hang gliders flying through the skies over Ellenville NY. back in the late 70s -early 80s!

That takes me back. Big sled rides in standards. Then as glider design improved, I wouldn't even fly if it wasn't soarable. My last glider was a UP Comet when 100-mile flights were commonplace.

I never made it past sled rides after releasing from the tow boat!!

Wow! Sure brings back memories. I built my first hang glider from info I got from readers digest in the early 70’s. Flew for several years at point of the Mountain Salt Lake County, Utah. Currently limit my flying to RC aircraft.

I still got my hang glider in the garage I bought back in 1975 in Norway. My first training was with a group from Oslo visiting Brighton and also touring a hang glider manufacturing shop. Took it out and cleaned it a year ago, but due to age both myself and nylon fabric probably best to have it remembered as a good souvenir from time past.

Oops! The glider at 1:27 is a Chargus Midas, flown by a visiting English pilot. Forgive me, it was more than forty years ago.

Joe Greglo and Rich Grigsby taught me to fly hang gliders at Dockweiler Beach in Oct of 1978. I'd turn 18 years old, and have flying ever since. 44 yrs and counting. I'm currently flying at Wallaby Ranch Hang Gliding in Davenport, Florida (aerotow).

It's always great to come across 1970s footage of hang gliding. I built my 1st hang glider in 1971 from bamboo and plastic. By 1972 I had an aluminum and sailcloth glider I built. Here's some footage of me flying the red and white glider I built and some footage of my father building a glider in his driveway. The flying sites were all Southern California, U.S. sites. Torrance beach, Escape Country, Playa Del Rey, and San Diego. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5bRoKuLe9CEapY

I think I bought Jim's Gryphon! It ended up in Brighton. Then I donated it to the nascent hang gliding museum. (Dennis Thorpe)

Interesting. It would be good to see it again. In fact, I fancy flying it myself.

Are there blueprints for the Cirrus III or Falcon IV ? I want to make one.
@robertkeddie2 ай бұрын
Not as far as I know. They wouldn't be up to modern airworthiness standards anyway.
