This takes me back, out of me & four other friends who started training. I was the only one to finish & take my first solo. Like this, I had a magic flight. An eagle rode my wing tip for about 3 mins, I really truly was flying with the birds. The start wasn't so great, an experienced flyer was up before me. He took off & focused too much on getting into his bag & eventually crashed halfway down the mountain. I had to wait for the area to clear after a rescue chopper lifted him out. I was the next after witnessing this, but I focused on my training & as stated had a magic flight. I heard later he had broken his pelvis & was back flying. I did hang gliding for 5 wonderful years, tried sky diving, but ended up scuba diving. At 53, I'm still scuba diving, but have a hankering to get back in the sky. If you made it through the to the end, thanks for reading my little story. ✌🏽️

Titus Cato Yes I read it all! Thanks for sharing. I also do a bit of scuba diving and am learning skydiving. But hang gliding remains my favourite! After four years I’m still flying; see kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4mvaGSeeb2gaMk

He also read to the end, and your story proves that flying must be treated with respect. As the pilot begins to think that he knows and knows everything, or that he always achieves what he wants without the necessary reserve and replacement plan, he is destined to perish. Today I fly by motor, but the experience with the glider has helped me many times to solve situations with an overview.

It's been 30 years since I've hang glided but still, those early days of learning on a small hill rank as some of the most fun and rewarding and thrilling of all the flights I did. Nice. 1st flight off a big hill is always memorable. Your luck to have it on video. For those wanting to "try" it. Please understand that it is a LOT OF WORK to get to that point. The easiest way is to go to a coastal site with super smooth wind and sand to bonk into!
@Leonardokite7 жыл бұрын
+Allen Ayler What I wanted to convey is that it is not really something you just try (unless on a coastal dune site as I mentioned) It does take a lot of work! Primarily in the beginning when you walk the kite up the hill.....do a quick takeoff/landing (bunny hop) and then do it again. Each time getting further up the hill requiring even more work. It really takes commitment and desire. I've seen many "try" it and get tired and frustrated very quickly. I think what ruins peeps is telling them it's easy and then when they fail they think it is them.
@matejlj7 жыл бұрын
Is this much harder than paragliding? Cause paragliding is really not that hard. Actually you can learn the basics of flying in one day. You could theoretically fly from a big hill in the second day of trining, if everthing is smooth (the weather, the wind, the surface, etc) Of course to be a safe paraglider, and to know how to avoid unpredictable things, there is a lot of training to do. But the tehniques of flying are very simple, and easy to learn. All you need is some practice, to get a proper fealing of the parashute.
@MrPennenridder7 жыл бұрын
Matej Bukovec Hi! Yes, this seems te be harder. The hangglider is heavier, flies faster and is more difficult to start. It is big fun though!
@flying-oyvinator7 жыл бұрын
well leonardokite.. it does actually take a bit of work.. first up one needs to be in reasonable health and have a bit of stamina.. one needs to be able to run for quite some distance.. when i took my paraglider course a couple of weeks ago, it said i had to be able to carry a 20 kilogram bag up a mountain.. wich i can do.. however, it wasnt nearly close to what you need to be able to do.. you should have the ability to jog for 2 kilometers without any issue.. you need to sprint against the wind with an object that resists you.. for half a minute or more!! it isnt easy! but this is the paragliding portion of flying..

I learned hanggliding 40 years ago. First sweaty on the beginner's hill and then from the Swiss mountains. First in the Jura, then in the Alps. But it was an expensive and time-consuming sport, so I stopped after 12 years. In the meantime, I had a family with 3 small children. At the age of almost 50 and with 3 active teenagers, we learned windsurfing together - in the Netherlands. My respect to all those who are still learning this great sport today. For me, it was a great time.

Tell God you admit your a sinner and ask Him to wash you with His blood and receive His Gift of righteousness. Come out of darkness and into light! it’s your part to receive Jesus to believe upon Him. It says, “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” Don’t think it’s not wrong to sin -because He loves us.

Haven't done this...yet. But you can really see the lag between weight shift and bank angle in the calm winds right after takeoff. Great primer for us about to try this for the first time. Thanks for sharing!

Something Iv'e always wanted to do but as a pilot, I know many things can go wrong and hang gliding is not for the feint hearted. Well done on the solo!

Thank's for the "quiet ride" Michiel. Good job. i know nothing of this. Do you have a parachute? Take care.
@MrPennenridder5 жыл бұрын
Terry Knutson Thank you! Yes, we do carry an emergency chute. Thankfully I never had to use it! You can see the chute very clearly on my latest video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4mvaGSeeb2gaMk. It is the big bulk on my chest in the harnass.
@MrPennenridder5 жыл бұрын
@Quincy Breed Though there is an emergency chute you hope never to find yourself in a situation you have to pull it. If so: you're in trouble and things are going to break. Hopefully that'll only be the glider. And if you have to pull, you throw it as far sideways as you can. It's a life saver; not made for comfort.

So exciting to watch, thanks for the video Michiel. How many training flights did you do, before this 'first solo'? Also, did you have some radio communications with your instructor? I'm trying to understand more before I try it next year.

It is. It really is. And the more you learn, the better it gets. Every minute with both feet on the ground feels like a waste of time. Be sure to take lessons at a proper school though! Keep it safe!

Daniel Brown thanks and yes: you are right. By now I do fly prone. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4mvaGSeeb2gaMk But since this is my very first solo altitude flight switching to a different harnass might be too much changes to get used to. So still flying with the beginner harnass.

Being his first REAL flight, he probably didnt even realise his attitude as he was too busy gawking at the spectacle of actually flying. After all, he just threw down the glider like its his own at the end.
