I think Ringo is a great and humble guy. If not for Ring intervening, I believe the Beatles wouldn't have lasted as long as they did with John and Paul's bickering with differences in opinions. That being said, I see Ringo in the all time 10 best drummers of all time often and I have to wonder if these people are deaf. If he was so good, why didn't he teach his own son to play instead of having someone else teach him? Again, I like Ringo as a person but I wouldn't say he is in the top 10,000 drummers of the 60's. Just think how good the Beatles would have been if Ringo could have actually played drums well.... That's my opinion for what it's worth anyway...
@jlcastille90172 жыл бұрын
@@davidwaddington9414 That may be the problem. I heard him say in an interview that he didn't practice except with the band (never alone) and didn't take lessons. Maybe he should have because he sounds like a south paw on a right handed drum set. Oh wait, he is! LMAO

Me too. I wish we could go back and stay in the 60' an the 70's. The best of everything. We wouldn't have to put up with all this bull crap that's happening now.

@@lawrencecarver4233 Going back to the 60's and 70's would indeed be great to experience all the bands that were truly talented would be great. And I also agree that we wouldn't have to put up with all the BS that is currently taking place. But, going back to that time in history would also mean getting daily updates on the number of US servicemen who were killed in Vietnam. Thanks but no thanks. I would rather live in the moment. Personally, I have no fricken desire to return to that part of Asia.

Ringo is the front man if one exists for the all star band... so he'll walk out from his kit during the show and sing a little help from my friends etc... and another drummer will fill in while he does the vocals. I saw a version of the all star band with the late great Levon Helm filling that function. Was a great "fun" show and that's what this tune is about :)

1965: Beatlemania is awash over America and dominate the Top 40 charts. The Rolling Stones are the unstoppable, Brit bad-boy rage and Elvis is still going strong. Then, in the middle of all of this comes the McCoys and Rick Derringer with "Hang On Sloopy" in September of 1965 and moves all the way to #1 on the Billboard Top 40 chart.

I agree. I've watched and seen lots of drummers in the past 50 years, however, there's a certain, 'je ne sais quoi' Ringo has that not to many drummers have. Technically, many drummers are terrific drummers, however, they don't have that certain quality... David Lloyd (Bleeding Hearts), in WNY, has that. I love hearing and watching him play. je ne sais quoi,,,

The Dave Clark Five were going to record it after hearing the Strangeloves play it. The writers gave the song to Rick and the Raiders, to record the song instead. The group's name was changed to The McCoys (to avoid confusion with another popular band of the era, Paul Revere and the Raiders), and their 16-year-old leader, Rick Zehringer, became known as Rick Derringer.
