This week Miss Claudia should be named Miss Crabby Patty! We have a short school week since we take the day off for Sophia's birthday. I thought it was so funny reviewing food groups with Solomon; it was as if he'd never heard of them before! The last day this week is the day I took my monthly shopping trip to Walmart.

I don't remember, but Asher's a bit like his mom and can be moody sometimes. He also acts grumpy on purpose, sometimes, too. There have been lots of time people have thought he was upset and he was just playing around. He's got a funny sense of humor.

I’m working thru all of your videos. Maybe not in order but I’m learning a lot just the same.You have children that just automatically seem to help each other anytime they need to. I think that’s awesome!

I so enjoy your homeschool hangouts. Thank you for having the courage to post them! Connor is about neck and neck with Solomon now -we're doing Kiki Kangaroo this week. The new story along with one- on- one time with me, is one of the highlights of his day (and I'm sure Solomons' too!)

I learned about how that works the other day. You probably set of that phrase with a dash on each end which turned it into a strike-through. It happened to me and I thought, what did I do? If you put a space between the dash and the words it stays a dash. We're just finishing Kikki Kangaroon tomorrow so we're right on track with each other!

Do the kids ever have problems with school work because of the others chatting,moving around etc? You're an amazing mommy! (teacher too)
@TheMillsFamilyVlog
@TheMillsFamilyVlog 7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes they do. We try to help them with the idea that people who learn to work in less than ideal environments will be ahead of the game. We were just talking about it today, in fact. I discussed with Justus and Eden that they can either live by the narrative that they need peace and quiet, they need everyone to be happy and they need nothing fun going on to concentrate _or_ they can live by the narrative that even if others are being a bit noisy, or Claudia is fussing or someone else is doing something interesting, they can still be very focused on their own business.

Andrea Mills I think they do very well (from what we can see,lol)and seem to really thrive. I sometimes wish we had been home schooled. You seem (there it goes again,lol)VERY patient. Solly,is an absolute doll. Heck,all of them are,but he's too cute and funny. Eden looks so much like your mil. I think that was her I saw in a recent video. I hope you didn't think I was being rude. That's a problem with KZbin, not knowing the tone. And you're so right. It would have to be a dreamland to live in ABSOLUTE peace and quiet. That's just not reality. Lol Have a good day.

Yes. Sometimes I do. I feel it less than I used to because I've accepted more and more that there's no such thing as being behind and my life isn't about how much I produce or how fast we go. Then I forget and pressure myself and start feeling stressed and behind again. Then I remember what I learned and the cycle continues. :)

help...what about sick days? the boys--all three had the flu last week. do you start where you are or do you try to catch up?
@TheMillsFamilyVlog
@TheMillsFamilyVlog 7 жыл бұрын
It would depend on who it was. If it was one of my older kids, I'd probably have them do a page or two extra in each subject for a few days to stay on track. If it was one of the younger set we'd just carry on without playing catch-up. The only exception is in Kindergarten the curriculum is laid out for 180 days of school. If we miss a day I double up the next day, but it's not a lot of work so it's not too big of a deal.

This year we haven't done much extra stuff, but a sampling of things we do from time to time are keeping Nature Notebooks, classics (The Great Books), Greek, typing, mod design, P.E., simple music lessons and singing, first aid, handcrafts, art, artist studies, herbal medicine, etc. No two years look alike and we just do what seems interesting from year to year. For our core subjects we use ACE Curriculum. Tom likes Randall Buth's Greek curriculum so he draws from it for pronunciation. Other than that he kind of does his own thing with the kids for Greek lessons. We've kind of settled on 3rd grade being our starting year and they progress at their own pace.

We've always used ACE so I don't really have any recommendations beyond that. Here's a video I did talking about ACE kindergarten: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6muin2notJ0m80 I love this book for ideas on how to create a good environment for learning to read: www.amazon.com/Three-Rs-Ruth-Beechick/dp/0880620749/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1486521170&sr=8-2&keywords=3+rs I also love Charlotte Mason's ideas. You can read her books on-line here: www.amblesideonline.org/ This blog also has lots of great articles on that method: simplycharlottemason.com/

Although I might not agree with some of your beliefs, I think you are doing a great job at raising kind and productive members of society. I'd love to send your children a few snacks and other things to try from my home (I'm from Austria). How would I be able to do that?

We still wear the same color. It's voluntary and Mr. Solomon enjoys getting his own clothes on lately and he kind of randomly picks something. Half the time he doesn't have the right color of shirt clean because he already wore it on a different day. :)

+Lauren Hawley Here's a video talking specifically about Kindergarten (if you have any questions after watching it, please ask!) Solomon is 4; he'll be 5 in June. I usually start my kids at 4 because they seem ready and it's not too strenuous. We don't do everything in the curriculum manuals. They were designed for a school and I don't want to spend all morning on school so we just do the parts we want to do. It can be a bit overwhelming when you first look in the manuals but if you take your time you can see how it's set up and learn to pick out what's relevant for you day to day. It's what we've used with all of our kids and we really enjoy it.
