Hangar 18 if Dimebag joined Megadeth

This isn't a typical upload and I'm glad Pantera and Megadeth are separate bands but... Some of you may know that Dave Mustaine asked Dimebag to join the band in the late 80's. Dime accepted but on the provision that his brother Vinnie could come to. Nick Menza (Megadeth drummer) had just been hired and Dave didn't think it fair to fire him. So it never happened.
I always thought what impact Dime would have on the band and how would Rust in Peace turned out.
I reached out to Achokarlos who in my opinion has the closest style to Dime I've seen to date. He graciously accepted the challenge and came on board to one of my favourite covers I've worked on.
Please check out his channel and subscribe if you can:
/ achokarlos
For my recording I used Softube's Kerry King 2203 amp sim, Logic Pro X, Dean VMNT AOD (Korea) and Zoom tac-2 interface.
Thanks for tuning in again, feel free to email me with any questions at Lambchopper678@me.com Subscribe to the channel and follow on me Facebook lambchopper6...

The cool thing about Marty and Dave was the Love /Hate Guitar Meter. "Go To Hell" is a good example of this. Marty's fluid playing is very skewed to the Love side of the meter, While Dave's aggressive, abrasive style clings to the far end of the Hate side of the meter. It was Yin and Yang. Dimebag however, was more of a middle-of-the meter guitarist; Love and hate combined in his guitar style. That's what made Dime so awesome. Having heard Rust In Peace, I don't think Dime's contribution would've been a good fit for Megadeth. Dime would've had to choke it back a little, and Dimebag Darrell was NOT a choke-it-back-a-little guitarist. BTW I got the Love/Hate thing off of an article about Dave and Marty from an issue of Guitar World 1990. I thought the article hit the nail on the head when describing the Rust In Peace style and sound.

I'm good with what actually happened as with Dave being fired from Metallica it gave us two great bands to listen to. @iamgribs
@iamgribs Жыл бұрын
@@cristianlopez_8486 I think Friedman was ultimately better since he had a unique style (sorta like Chris Poland). Waters has a style more comparable to Mustaine so it wouldn't have been as interesting hearing them exchange solos. This is not to say Waters is better or worse, he is as good as anyone. This is my opinion.
@cristianlopez_8486
@cristianlopez_8486 Жыл бұрын
@@iamgribs Fair enough. Though Waters' style was more reminiscent of EVH than Mustaine if you dissect his playing. He just jacks up the speed and complexity of his leads significantly, so maybe that's where I can see the comparison.
@cristianlopez_8486
@cristianlopez_8486 Жыл бұрын
@Patrick G And on another note, if Waters did join Megadeth, I probably wouldn't see his tenure lasting as long as Friedman in all honesty. Maybe till Countdown or Youthanasia at the absolute latest (mainly due to Jeff going through a period of alcoholism at this time and trying to get sober).

Imo...Dime joining Megadeth would have been too confining for him has a guitarist and musician...Dave's rhythm style is primarily about tight precise uniformed riffs, without improvised bends, tremelo dive bombs, and those squeals that Dime's style is known and loved for...Dime's rhythm style is tight and precise as well, but in his own way. He's like a heavier hot rodded EVH clone along with other influences and his own thing happenin too, of course... Most bands with single guitarist in them are excellent rhythm and lead players, and in Dime's case he was was fucking superb at both...Having another guitarist playing along with him would've just clashed and got in his way, and for me that's what I'm kind of hearing here... These guys both killed it in their performances and I get that it was just a fun thing for them to get together and do...But those 2 styles just do not work well together, to me...Besides, the world deserved to have both the Megadeth and PanterA bands added to the Metal music fabric of the universe! I sure as hell appreciate both of their contributions. .

Well said. I'd agree. I think Dime style was pretty out there and was its own thing. That's not to say this video here sounds bad, but working within the confines of a Megadeth song wouldn't let him show the full scope of what he could do.

If Dimebag was in Megadeth even the rythim guitar would have been in different scale, a more “bluesy” one

the experiment is cool but simply dimebag soloing style doesn't fit good for marty friedman parts.

Hindsight is 20/20. If Dime was the guitarist for Megadeth, it would be the norm. But, thankfully Marty did grace Megadeth with his playing and Dime become a legend in Pantera.

I have to say this was fooking brilliant.....Hats off to both Guitarists. Excellent job and this is coming from someone that's seen both bands live many times. The whammy harmonics where brilliant and well timed. Could see Dime doing a black tooth grin whilst doing them.....🤘🤘🤘🤘

Not sure if that's how we would have played but i can def hear his style and as a loyal Megadeth fan, i can honestly say that i don't like it one bit. Everything that makes that song great is disposed of. Sorry but thanks but no thanks.
