These are extremely helpful. I live in a area without a shotokan dojo, and your commentaries provide excellent technical guidance that I would otherwise miss. Between you, old JKA videos and Rick Hotton's training videos, I'm set. Thanks for all your work!

I've trained in Song Moo Kwan Tae Kwon Do for 48 years now and we do this kata as well. Song Moo Kwan is a direct offshoot of Shotokan as Byung-Jick Ro, the founder of SMK, trained under Gichin Funakoshi. We call it Bahn Wall which means Half Moon also. I always find it fascinating how styles develop a kata to fit their philosophy. Here is the SMK version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6qzfnWaf6aWfKc

Excellent teaching, instructional video. The audio however echoes a lot, which affects delivery somewhat. Wonder if can be cleared up, or overdubbed... Wonderful demo and explanation of background and technicalities.

Mine was fuku then but in the Isshinryu system sees an is the first kata but each. Style does it. Differently some styles add Kicks punches etc The style I like Left stance left cross hand open block then left hand push block going in opposite direction across chest. Then right punch ,left punch ,right. Punch then left punch Then. Right. Punch then step right. Stance it goes on

Great kata, but if i may say so: In my opinion you should, after having explained the kata, show it in full speed, so that it's possible to see how it is really made.
@rubenlee28948 жыл бұрын
I learn from Shotokan Sensei then watch Sensei Kanazawa videos then watch competition video so you can judge the speed of the kata and how it should be done.

Looks like SKIF for sure (clearly, your do-gi says it too)! JKA and ISKF do it a bit differently. It's nteresting to see how different head instructors have different slight variations on the same kata. I see a lot of Kanazawa sensei there. :)

Hello; what are you talking about? First; you do not need to "know" Hangetsu to pass any grade. Then, if you are more than Sandan (where you are free to choose what Kata to perform) seems that you never understood the basics. Better to not do exams and understand correctly what is Karate.
@xXBaadXx6 жыл бұрын
One of my favorite Kata, Sadly its not a winning Kata in Shotokan tournaments because everybody and his mother would go with a more complicated Kata like Unsu or Kanko Sho
