This was one of our regular malls that my parents and I went to throughout the 90's and 2000s before they renovated into "Springfield Town Center." In fact, this Time Out on the upper floor was one of my main hangouts from around late 1998 and throughout 1999 and 2000. My favorite games to play and watch others play here at the time were Soul Calibur and Tekken Tag Tournament. There was also another Time Out located on the lower level, and that's where I was first introduced to Tekken 3 in 1997. I also loved watching people play X-Men Vs. Street Fighter at that location. Seeing this Time Out again after all these years is like finally getting to see a long lost old friend, and it really takes me back. Those were such great times I wouldn't trade for anything, and thanks again for putting these videos up to remind us of those better times!

@@AshEch0 I do too. I actually miss how most all the malls were in the 90's. I was so happy to find this video too, especially since I used to spend so much time at this arcade!

During high school I had my mom drop me off at the shopping mall arcade after school. Spent maybe couple of hours and I would use the pay phone and call her to pick me up. At the time my parents had a mom and pop supermarket. She never complained how it was a trouble to her. I guess she wanted to make sure I have a safe transportation than riding the bus. Now as an adult I look back and see how much she cares for me.

1998 was the last time I remember being in a modern arcade, at least in the traditional sense (meaning predominantly video game cabs, not rides and redemption machines). Couldn't hold a candle to the arcades of '82 - '94.

Absolutely true...after home consoles caught up with the Arcade's it was essentially "Game Over".

@@vampirerobot Yep. The Dreamcast and PS2 pretty much signaled the end of arcades because they could so easily bring the experience home. It was understandable but still sad to see places like Chuck E. Cheese go from dark, smoky arcades to brightly lit redemption machine centers. Inevitable, I suppose. The price we pay for technological advancement.

This was Springfield Mall in Northern Virginia; now renovated as "Springfield Town Center" (i.e. still a mall). No more Timeout, just a Dave & Buster's.

WOOO You just took me back to 1998! Whoa that was my second home for a time. Played every arcade game up in that joint. Also does anyone remember K-B and Spencers. My history with Springfield Mall goes back to the DC to VA family outings we did there back in the mid-80s.

Ah, Spencers. The store we used to go into to laugh at all the weird products and say "who's buying this stuff?" lol. But I guess someone is buying it seeing as Spencers is still around.

Those 90s racing arcade games like Cruis’n world San Francisco Rush and California Speed were still everywhere well into the 00s at least here in Texas. I’m an 00s kid but I remember playing Cruis’n World every time we went to a restaurant called Chuck’s in Plano Tx in from about 2003-05 and I remember playing what was either SF Rush or Rush the Rock at an arcade at Rivercenter mall in San Antonio.

My favourite light gun arcade game was Sega's House of the Dead. 1:44 played it in late 1997 and it was fun but didn't play it too much as it was £1 to play it.

Hey, Springfield Mall! Fun facts: For quite a long time, there was actually TWO Time Outs- this was on the upper floor at one end, and a second one was on the lower level at the opposite end, near where a Montgomery Wards (later a Target) anchored the mall. The MW was notable for being a spot on Prince (now King) Charles and Princess Diana toured on their trip to America, and the lower Time Out was where the chain's older games would be put out to pasture before finally being retired. Eventually it'd close, but this one on the upper floor remained until the mall was closed down and everything between the anchors demolished and rebuilt from the ground up. It was also Time Out's biggest moneymaker for quite some time before the arcade craze faded away. This was my arcade of choice as a kid, a teen, and for years after.
