Savvy Organics Farm

Күн бұрын

After the Homesteading Life Conference, Savvy Organics Farm spent time with Doug and Stacy, from the KZbin Channel Off Grid With Doug And Stacy, helping out with the cabin they're building for their mom. Stacy even prepared some awesome meals for us in their outdoor kitchen! Watch as we sit down with them and talk about living a sustainable, homesteading lifestyle. Even if you can't go off grid or homestead, there are plenty of things that can be done to live in tune with nature using the resources God provides.

I so have missed Stacey! So good to hear her voice and see her sitting there with the little kitten... who OBVIOUSLY loves her dearly. So cute. And the overall "picture" of ya'll sitting there around the fire pit, with the dog in the background and the beauty of your homestead... it's so awesome.

I love what you had to say about growing food in the front yard! I live on a tiny lot in a city. My front yard faces south, so I put in 8 small raised beds and a couple apple trees. Everyone in the community knows which house is mine because it looks so different. At first I was a little self-conscious, but I have met so many people while gardening in my front yard. It's been a blessing.

Wow! Way to go. I am very impressed. If you can't grow it yourself it is important to support your local farmers. Better seasonal foods and much better quality. Keep up the good work my urban homesteading friend.

You can tell Stacy that I helped hatch (out of the egg) my first guinea baby...it was so exciting (I already have 6 guineas, we put 2 under one of my broodie chickens, 28 days later, 1 died, 1 lived!) It was so awesome....he's now in a bin in my office....ready to go outside now....) Nice to see you guys are still homesteading! :) Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)

We plan to go full-on with homesteading over the next couple of years if everything works out. Until then, I’m learning everything I can about gardening and raising animals. This is my 2nd year gardening and it was better than last year but still didn’t get enough to really can much. And I have some chickens. It’s a start I guess 😂

Yes, rainwater, creek water, and pond water are safe using a high-quality filtration system like a Berkey. If in question, have the water tested by a lab to be sure.

Growing your own food is rewarding, but eating it is the ultimate satisfaction. My garden is where my soul feels at home. Waiting for our fruit trees/bushes to mature that we planted on our new property but our garden is thriving. Sure, there is work getting things set up but at the end of the day when I look around I can envision our “food forest” shaping up nicely and these 62 yr old muscles don’t ache quite so badly. It’s like the old adage “how do you eat an elephant?”- one bite at a time. \ {0.o} / .

@@SavvyOrganicsFarm I am trying to copy Matt and Elaine Ingram on my gardens and mini orchard..I let the strawberries crowd together 6 yrs NEVER spacing or culling any...put golden sedum ground cover between and it spread so no bare inch of soil....roots everywhere, exactly opposite of conventional wisdom....3 yrs in a row bumper crop....but year 6 this June GIANT berries and double harvest and even SWEETER! Blows my mind we waste 40 yrs listening to idiot "wisdom"!!! Filled the freezer! WOW I wish I had done this from the beginning!
