I love that you said "it makes the world feel a lot smaller" but didn't hint to that being a bad or negative thing. Most people want it all big... I love the small parts of the world.

So lovely to see you hanging out with Doug and Stacy as they are the ones who inspired my raised bed garden! I wanted to build and start raised beds, mostly because I did not want to crawl around the garden on my knees and found their bed building video. Well a year later and beds are built, filled with good soil and some earthworm compost and straw on top and growing lovely things. My first crops failed due to ignorance and excessive heat waves, but I planted again and still have crops. Just now started seeds for Autumn and the garden is getting better and better :-D

Okay maybe I'm weird, but, seeing the school gardening efforts brought tears to my eyes! I'm going into teaching and I believe gardening is a great way to teach children not only about science but also about sustainability, and life skills (including patience). Great video! 😊

Before I read this comment, I commented that I teared up at the kids' building too! I'm no teacher, but it makes me think... maybe this is something I should look into for my community as well. I'm not a great gardener myself, but hey, maybe we can all learn together and teach a new generation about where food comes from and sustainability and the love of dirt and growing things!
@maria09mc0516 жыл бұрын
@@jeanrichards8042 we are all constantly learning and it's not about being a great gardener it's about teaching our kids how to learn 😊. I just started gardening last year and since then I've taken the time to learn as much as I can about gardening. I've made quite a few mistakes and my boys have witnessed my gardening "oopsies" but we've had such successes that they outweigh all the bad. We've learned about bugs and growing cycles and it's all been so inspiring and motivational.

I love that you shared that bit about the kids! I am currently starting a garden as a part of our children's ministry for our church. ....it's already heaping huge rewards in building relationships with the kids. I envision it growing into classes and workshops and such a fun place to be for children in our community to be. Kinda feels like a God sized dream.... all that we want to do, but it's already starting to unfold.

Actually, Doug and Stacy, this is the first time I have heard about "aging in place,"in backyard vegetable gardening. I thought I invented the concept when I built my hip-high raised beds in 2009. Jess, I adore your channel,and I think you are the "man" in gardening--you pack in more knowledge in one visit!! I am amazed! You are like an encyclopedia but with hands on experience on a topic.

Cool to see the kid's hands-on exhibition. I loved what that lady was saying about the other gazillion types of bees that are the real pollinators in many cases. I get zero honey bees, and even very few bumbles in my garden, but what I do get are mason bees There are about 140 species of them in North America. All are solitary bees, and from what I've read, mason bees can pollinate circles around a honey bee. Glad to see you guys enjoying the show ..... take care.

I couldn’t love you more 💕 💜 🌈 I’ve cried over my garden too. This is my first year starting my own seeds indoors, I literally watched from the moment they popped up “one tomato!! Two more!!! I would jump out of bed and run to see my seedlings!! I watched them almost die when deer ate them to a skeleton, and they STILL CAME BACK, and now I’m still eating their fruit! Gardening is a dream and your channel is my absolute favorite on youtube where I get to dream bigger 😊

I had to pause the video to tell you, I flew home to NC from a trip to Lakeland FL with my sister-in-law. In my carryon shoulder bag was several tropicals to add to my collection. There were plants sticking up over my shoulder as I walked down the aisle, the passengers laughed and thought it was cute that I had a false bird of paradise, and several ornamental gingers blooming in that shoulder bag. This was last summer. They went through the x-ray just fine too! So next time take a shoulder bag, that can sit between your feet, and shop away! I also have a friend that packs a small extra bag in her luggage that is for cuttings and small plants that is the carry-on size that goes into the overhead. Things can easily come out of Cali, they just will not let you take them into Cali.

Love the Crop Swap dude, he and I are like minded for sure, a couple years ago when I was still a community garden manager I saw the need for homegrown food bartering so I created a facebook group for my local area that is exclusive to those who grow food, forage for food, catch food, raise food and create with all of the above it has 829 members that barter food for food every day. You really shine around your people, so much garden love in one place!
