I had a painting contractor watching me papering a small bathroom a while back. He said that he was going to start hanging paper because it looked easy. I said it looked easy because I have had 50 years to learn all of the tricks of the trade. And I still learn something on every job . Spencer , you are the best.

I don’t exaggerate when I say… I wish I knew 3/4 of what you knew regarding wallpaper and painting together… Remember, you have been doing it a solid 50 years, not I!!!

Sorry, incomplete thought above. Meaning that I do not agree that Mr. Colgan is the best.

Those are tricky. Once had one nice and tight and all lined up & the next day the customer, “I can see a huge bubble in the top corner!” You’ve gotta fix it. It looks terrible.” Ok. I started with cutting in the corner to see how much of a gap & if I had enough play to wet and manipulate it into place.Customer was watching, “Oh, that’s worse, now I can see the seam.” As I smirked to myself, it’s ok, I’ll get it. Pattern had a large flower like you had, so left the room & cut out with shears the flower then with Xacto knife cut out pattern leaving 1/8” and glued in the patch. Seamless. She was amazed how I stretched it out and got rid of the bubble…..😁. Keep up the great work.

I don't agree on this spencer, you always need to be Plumb. What I'd of done is cut that corner with a slight overlap.. 5mm, no more, re hung the next length plumb so paper after that will run plub, the horizontal will also be correct. I'd like to see your corner in a few weeks went it pulls tight and causes a caravan bubble in the corner. You've made it hard work for yourself faffing with the next lengths to compensate. The miss alinement wouldn't then happen, if the paper runs off on pattern match, always match at eye level.

I agree phil. Lose it in the corner. It’s a very busy pattern.

@chrisbeach44 tye caravan on the corner and the length not being plumb will create problems you don't need on subsequent lengths.

Yes I agree with you. Spencer making work for himself. Too much manipulating of the edge of the full length. It will definitely pull back over time.

I should have said that the walls are only 77 inches high… It is a closet where a large dog will live with the door open. Having said that, we still want to be perfect… However, I don’t agree that you always have to be plumb… The pattern is very busy being plumb is not an issue as much as it would be if they were normal height and it were a normal room… Furthermore, in this scenario, I prefer to keep my pattern intact because, believe it or not… That obtuse angles is actually a focal point of the room because it is right there in your face as soon as you went through the room and in my judgment, I preferred to keep it intact and to nurse the corner so that the Wallpaper did not pull away From the corner and I waited for it to do so. But thank you for your input… I would have done that if it were a bigger room

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator it’s a closet. There were only 2 sheets after that corner.
