When this first aired and we didn’t know when exactly Carell would be exiting the show during the season, I thought Michael just randomly going on a mission trip would have been a funny end. Although I am much happier with the denouement and growth they gave him in this last season with Holly

Bruh it never occurred to me that this episode was a red herring for Michael leaving the show. To those people that thought this was it, that ending would have been a cool twist!

Ok yall. Let us all pause and realize that Andy was about to leave his job for 3 months, and chickened out. Then, he left his job for 3 months on a boat trip. Wonder if he smelled a weird warm cheese then too.

Oh man remember when Chris said that hilarious, very insightful thing in the middle of this video? That was awesome, I hope he reads this comment in a year and knows exactly what I’m referring to!

I always thought the camera people were hiding in the balcony because they were looking for people from the office hooking up in the church

This episode feels weird because there are so many strangers. Other than a fee times during the Dundies, or at Poor Richard's - and the Insurance Salseman - there aren't a lot of interactions between the public and the Office subjects. In this episode, the characters are jammed up against normies just going about their day. Why are all these people ok with being in a weird documentary about office workers? Why would Jim think Angela would steal his baby, after working with her for 8 (or so) years? What was she going to do, abandon her cats and disappear? Everything about this episode is unfamiliar, even the interactions between core characters. If any original episode from the Michale Scott years deserved a 1, it's this episode.

Yeah, despite the fact that this episode has some of my favorite moments (The "Get in, quick" bit; the "I'm so sorry Michael, I need to you to say it" bit; Toby's whole arc; and just going going from memory, there's a moment where Jim and Pam are talking and they argue about everyone being hungry and Jim ends it with "...I think I'm just hungry" that I've always loved), this is one of my least favorite episodes. I can't even put my finger on why, exactly. It's just lacking something.

I believe the reaaason the toby bit cut quickly was because I took it as a hilarious one liner not deep character development I personally loved the bit.

" I haven't ate yet." No, it's I haven't eaten yet. These verb tenses really seem to perplex you for some reason.

Do you have anything against smile guy?

Bringing up that the camera man was on the bus already before michael and andy was probably sloppy editing. Can’t belive I never noticed that lol. The that’s what she said joke might have been a tad too dirty. Same joke. Much blunter context. And the toby at the alter moment? Funniest in the episode imo.

@micahbush53972 жыл бұрын
This episode is definitely one of the most cringey episodes of the series, even more so than "Scott's Tots." I will say, though, that Andy (in a future episode) incentivizing people to work harder by getting a tattoo feels like something a crazy youth pastor would do). Also, Ryan, just shut up. Not everyone's as phony as you are, and an ex-drug addict who committed corporate fraud and can't commit to a relationship or move out of his mother's basement has no high ground from which to judge people he's never even met. And FYI, the reason churches password-protect their Wi-Fi is to keep people from playing on their phones when they're supposed to be listening to the sermon.

Weird illogical camera setups is why the conceit of setting a long running show as actually being a documentary doesn’t work…if you take the concept seriously. It worked for the UK original, and would have been fine for the short first season of this program, and even maybe a second or third season. But to think about it going on for years and years is just annoying. The Office made the finale work well enough, no doubt, but in my opinion the documentary idea is a poor story framing device beyond short term (and often doesn’t even work then…the famous MASH documentary episode is barely watchable, but then so is the entire series, and even Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket documentary sequences didn’t work, even upon release…it just seemed fake)

This is a skipper for me. Toby's bit is really heartfelt, especially the deleted scenes but otherwise, nah.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of this episode. Nothing stands out as particularly funny and overall I find it forgettable. I could completely skip over it and never even realize it
@johnmorrell31872 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate that Toby moment. We can usually let Toby act as a punching bag or the target of jokes and never acknowledge any effect it has on him. He's a character, he doesn't actually get hurt. That's good for a comedy generally, but I really loved seeing the depth now and then.

This episode is sort of like a modern blockbuster - it’s done quite well and it has some very good bits, but the plot and concept just don’t have the legs to stand

I've always wondered about that guy that jumped off the bus with them, was he meant to be a new cast member and decided against it after filming? I have no recollection of talking about it when the episode first aired. Always wondered.

As someone who's never lived in the US, the Christening feels kinda like an anthropological study. Getting into the Church, the mission and the Christening itself feels so foreign, which made it pretty memorable to me
