This game is actually a sequel to Hanjuku Hero on the Famicom. Interestingly, the code used for summoning monsters in the Famicom version was later repurposed for the summons in Final Fantasy III.

I was doing research on Square's early days and this game stumped me. I really didn't know what to say or make of it, so I'm so glad that years later you stepped in to cover it!

The excellent soundtrack was made by Koichi Sugiyama who composed (all?) the main line dragon quest titles.

Probably never going to try Hanjuku due that translation patch, but man am I hyped for Unicorn Overlord. Even that collector's edition with full on card game invokes what a modern day Ogre Battle may have.

Thanks for covering this one, despite the obvious obstacles. I've added the Japanese version to my collection, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. The manual is present and I luckily can read the language, so once I get around to it, I'll post another comment with some info about the gameplay. :)

I'd recommend Lord Monarch if you enjoyed this one. I believe the Mega Drive port which has a story campaign has a good English patch. Hanjuku Hero actually started on Famicom in Japan and was a fairly minor series for Square, so I guess the chance of them re-releasing those games is pretty low, but hey, they remade Live A Live, so you never know. However, I recall reading somewhere that they wanted to release one of the later games in the West, but it was poorly received by the focus group and it ultimately stayed in Japan, so we'll see how this goes.

This game looks really interesting, if it ever gets a finished translation ill definatly have to give it a try, i can only imagine the explanations for all the wierdness is half the fun!

Looking at this it seems like Orge Battle and Rommancing Saga of the 3 Kingdoms had a child. I know Orge Battle came out later, but still. Also looks like this could have come out on the Famicon, instead of the Super Famicon, at least compared to Orge Battle.

This game is very interesting. I think it is the first or the base of Dragon Force on Sega Saturn. Has very similar features like movement of the units and have generals and Force army. The castle upgrade also same. For the intermission pheas getting new General and classes or items or upgrade base.

It's kind of amazing to me that even after 25+ years of fan translations being a thing, there are still classic Square and Enix titles that have never gotten translated.

RTS is a genre that seems to have gotten the short end of the stick in at least every language I know (2 of them--English and Spanish). I wonder if the Koreans are better at making them? The only console RTS I knew about for relatively modern consoles (Xbox 360, specifically) were two _LOTR_-themed ones from several years back... _Battle for Middle-Earth,_ I think they were called? Anyone ever play those?

played it. was one of the best games besides final fantasy. It is super fun and strategic game at that time. not easy at all. I played it in Japanese. had to memorize what they mean and trying new things out
