Hank Hill is the American Spirit we SHOULD have. As straight arrow as you can be and 100% genuine. There’s people he don’t understand, or care for, but he he’s far from hateful. Trustworthy almost to the point of monotony but that’s a good thing. Cares more about a job well done than wealth and always deals square. Hard to believe he’s from the same fella that made Beavis & Butthead.

I think Mike Judge had alot of sympathy for the traditional American spirit when he made the show, Hank is sometimes out of his element but he never looks like a fool, he's a natural leader and a man of integrity. I remember in an interview Mike said he made Beavis and Butthead because that's how he pictured modern American teenagers; I like to think he made King of the Hill to honor the previous generations.

Honestly he has a point. Learning to use tools and how to use them properly can be a huge thing. Hell there's nothing like building something with your own two hands. Or being able to fix something in your own home without calling in a repairman. Hell we have more information at our fingertips than ever before. You can find a video to teach you just about anything these days

When I started woodworking, we were all made to research informations about tools and products on the computer. Which was no different from researching on our own. Which anyone can do. Many of my tutors surprisingly didn't gave answers right away or taught as much compared to the amount of informations I gathered by myself. There's no secret really. Just something to scare very beginners

I completely agree with you! Even though I'm not a mechanic or handyman by any stretch of the imagination, just watching youtube videos have taught me to do simple repairs/maintenance to my vehicle & my home. I'm 32 & unfortunately other people in my age group only use the internet to look at silly "challenge" videos.

My school did shop in middles school, we made metal boxes and wooden butler tables. High school offered welding, small gas engines and automotive. I just wish I had gotten into the advanced welding class, they did TIG and MIG, where I just got to do oxy-aceteline welding.

Honestly, vo-tec changed my life. I was a D student. I took a class at the tech center in high school. It was the first time I didn’t suck at school and really excelled at something. While I didn’t ultimately go into that trade it was the gateway to everything I’ve accomplished since.

For real, I'm still taking classes at 31. There's no such thing as "too late" or "can't go back". Even if you end up in a position you find yourself not liking there's always time to change your course. Life's a lot longer and more forgiving than young people are made to believe it is.

Aw. I hated it, personally. I worked my ass off to get into that school, jeopardizing my mental health and found out they accepted lower scores. Had a hard time there when my depression spiked. Had I known, I would’ve went to my regular high school.

A lot of students don't learn the same way others do. It took me going into the Navy to discover I learn best through practice rather than theory, because I'd never really had the opportunity to try anything differently. Sure I had a few teachers that were able to get through to me, but by that point, I was so set against the school system that I was never going to be able to bring myself to care enough to actually put in any real effort. I was going to go to massage school last year, but I think you can guess how that wasn't going to happen. It would have been nice to learn something by doing, and actually learning it.

They should have more classes like these. I was in my early 20s going to mechanic school when I came to a startling realization. Learning is fun. I despised school and got a high grade on the ACT despite never paying attention. If I had a class like shop or somehow had this epiphany earlier, well, I'd probably be doing something other than commenting on a koth clip.

@@JohnSmith-wx9wj Most vocational teachers I have had (granted this was mostly community college level), were teachers because they knew their shit and had a passion for both the craft and teaching. Sometimes they weren't always the best teachers, were ramblers, confusing, neurotic, whatever... But they almost ALWAYS would be the type to happily work until sundown with a student who wanted to learn, because they loved the craft and wanted to see it continue. They care.

Sure, you might need calculus in your adult life, you are probably going to need a basic understanding of biology, but you are absolutely guaranteed going to need what you learn from Home Ec and Shop. Every person should know their way around a basic tool box, common kitchen supplies, how to use household appliances. It helps that we have the internet for a lot of things now, but knowing the basics from these kinds of instructional classes will serve you well your entire life.

There's something interesting I find about Hank and Peggy's dynamic. Peggy IS intelligent but because of her arrogance and need to impress people, she comes off a lot dumber than she really is. Hank doesn't fancy himself as an intellectual but when he's passionate about something, he's a genius.

Peggy's grand beliefs about her ability are indeed not stupidity (by themself) but delusion. Because of that though I'm pretty sure she doesn't get chances to actually develop her skills because she's already satisfied with something mediocre and she has to in fact defend it and 'prove' its great, since not doing so would shatter her belief. She stuck committed to being only what she already is in order to ironically feel special. Something something "I am a teacher, I've already done my learning"

Preach. Shop shows you that you can build something with your own hands. That with a little forethought and planning you can make some pretty neat shit. Home ev helps give those household skills that, sadly, not everyone has. Cooking is honestly fun. Check balancing? Not so much but it is needed.
