@@shirleydavis3934 I love Hank's version, but Tex Ritter's is the best imho. I just wish they would have given the provo-marshall's verdict at the end of the story. I have learned more about the Bible through country and reggae music than any Sunday school teacher could imagine.

There is only One God and God lives in all of us, if we allow God's grace to reside in our hearts. If a Deck of Cards helps you to get to God, then remember to see we all belong to something greater than ourselves, and we are all in it together, no matter how differently we worship. What matters is how we act toward each other and if we see God not only in ourselves, but also in the eyes of all our brothers and sisters. Give me a God-fearing, card-playing man who loves country music and the Lord, and I will give you a better world. If we hold our mouths right,,,

It's an experience to hear Hank when he talks. He has a sad, sincere gray voice unlike no other artist. That why any song he sings sounds different from any other artist. This song has been recorded many times with artist like Tex Ritter, Cowboy Copas. T. Texas Tyler wrote the song. Hank sung this Jan-Mar '51 on Mother's Best Flour Shows. There were many songs on these shows that he never sang elsewhere, but were later recorded and released after his death. 3/16.

There wasn't a song written , that Hank couldn't sing and make it a hit. Hank was before his time , a short 5 year career and a long list of hits . 68 years later , Hank lives on through his music , and through fans that won't let his memory or music die . As long as there are Hank Williams fans , then Hank will live forever through his music .

As a Non-christian, I've always appreciated the way Old Hank sr always emphasized tolerance & non-judgmentalism as an appropriate way to live a christian life. Be careful of stones that you throw is another good example of that anti-self righteous, anti-judgmental position. I can respect a christian like that.

***** "Xtians are no more perfect than anyone else"Is a cop-out to excuse bad behavior. Of course no one is perfect-but the difference is that I don't belong to a religion that tells everyone that they are going to hell if they aren't xtians. Besides, didn't the apostle Paul say that "You are to be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect."? Let's face it, no religion that claims to be a religion of peace has lent itself more readily to violence than xtianity ( and no, Islam is NOT as guilty historically speaking as xtianity is & quasi-xtian nations have always sought their help in matters of war-which is why we are fighting terrorists that our government has supported in times past right now.) As for Atheism, Agnosticism, Stalinism, Fascism, Maoism-none of these things are legitimate comparisons because they are Ideologies & Philosophies-not religions. Ideologies are not necessarily dogmatic nor do they have to be peace loving. Xtianity is a religion whose dogma demands that it's adherents practice living in peace. Lastly, you've said that everyone needs christ but xtians aren't perfect, so I have to accept a "perfect" messiah as my personal saviour that comes from an imperfect faith practiced by imperfect ppl in order to go to a "perfect" heaven & avoid damnation-all of which were created by a "perfect" god? A perfect god who could just as easily have given man the free will to choose to serve him by creating conditions in the world like "Good" vs "not so good" instead of "Good" vs "Genocide, Infanticide, rape, murder, suicide, natural disasters, etc" all conditions that inevitably create sufffering for the innocent? This your "perfect" god? a god whose only solution to the problems that he created was to make his "son" die one of the worse deaths imaginable? Your whole religion is saturated in suffering & death in this life in favor of a better afterlife-how can a religion like that not lend itself to evil? I believe in your right to practice this religion-but I am a Teutonic Pagan, I honor many Gods & Goddesses-each of whom govern specific things in nature (something that I can prove exists!) as well as our Pagan ancestors & I'm quite fine where I am at (Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that in my religion, I do NOT have to believe that you or anyone else will suffer eternal damnation because you are not Heathen/Pagan.)
@judykay3729
@judykay3729 8 жыл бұрын
***** Actually, you're HALF right about "Hell" Hel is our Goddess of death-won't even try to deny that-I'm proud of it! But the myth of hell/hades/tartarus (the latter two being of Mediterranian origin-not Teutonic or Norse) being a place of suffering & eternal damnation through fire didn't exist in any religion until the Zoroastrian influence on Judaism/Xtianity's "Intertestamental" period. The use of our Goddess Hel's name in your religion was just one of many things that xtianity stole from ours & all other Pagan traditions & distorted almost beyond belief. I defy you to show me one reference to Hel or HelHeim that describes it as a place of damnation & torture BEFORE it was (mis)interpreted as such a place by the Xtian scholar Snorri Sturluson. Pagan-Roman historian Tacitus (who also spoke of your jesus) author of GERMANIA, doesn't even make reference to Hel at all. Thanks to what your religion did to ours, most of what we know about such things is strained through the incredibly biased, anti-pagan lens of xtian "scholarship". Your reference to WW1-WW2 (as if the English-Irish conflict was not motivated by religion.) could in no way be bloodier than the crusades (the holocaust not withstanding) and again, these secular ideologies (while they do remain ideologies) were all heavily influenced in one way or another by xtianity. Regarding our Wudan & Baldr, Baldr's sacrifice is another example of the xtianizing of our Gods-his name actually means "Lord of Warriors" & his nature as a god of love & purity is highly disputed to this day...again, Sturluson's Edda rears it's ugly xtian head again. As for AllFather, his sacrifice was genuine & gave us the runes, but it was in no way intended to be something that would motivate our ppl to suffer (by example) in this life in order to go to "Heaven". It was a sacrifice meant for us in the here & now-totally different from your messiah's sacrifice (which really wasn't even a sacrifice at all!) Lastly, You don't offend me, Xtianity itself does! Your covert evangelicalism shows through your reply which means that you are lying if you say that I need your jesus or I'm going to hell-how can anyone from any religion other than fundamentalist xtianity not be offended by that!

I don't have words to tell you so I'll let GOD's words speak: Judgment at the Throne of God Rev 20 11Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

"Xtians are no more perfect than anyone else"Is a cop-out to excuse bad behavior. I see that intolerance and judgementalism are not confined to Christians. How can you even know what "bad behavior" is if you have no God to measure anything by?

This is the best version of this song I have heard. I have heard Tex Ritter, Red Sovine and one or two others and none come up to this one. Hank has that certain something that makes a song sound like a real song. The greatest cannot be beaten. Tex Rittler was good and Red Sovine did his over his son who served in Vietnam. I can remember hearing this on WHN AM radio in the mid 70's in NY. It was a country radio station then. They played this little song back when no one gave a darn about the Good Word being said on the radio or what it meant. Now, we can't even say "God Bless you" without getting accused of religious bigotry.
