Jerry Perkins I'm guessing you are a relative, so l better say something nice. To be honest, as an Aussie teen from the '60's, l hadn't heard of Carl. But since l have used YT, l have learnt heaps about him, and what an enormous influence he was for many of the '60's artists, including the Beatles. Plus our own beautiful Tommy Emmanuel, speaks freely of his respect for Carl, and won an award named after Carl. So in a nutshell how could l not respect this pioneer musician, who also comes across as a very gracious man.

A Very young Clapton! Great video! I differ with Johnny on one point. Awkward audience silence re his comment re music in England. IMOHO and , country music’s foundation is built of the tunes sung by Scottish and Irish immigrants to the Southern and Western US, especially 1740’s - 1890’s. We’re very fortunate that AP Carter, husband of Sara, Maybelle Carter’s cousin, roamed all over the South collecting these tunes in the early 20th Century. These tunes and the Carters singing of them were a catalyst for country music. Maybelle is considered the “Mother of Country Music.”

Well yeah, Johnny Cash crossed all musical boundaries successfully. He was not a single genre, but rather created his own subgenre that fell between folk, rock n roll, and country music. He sang all types of music and made you believe that he was actually in that genre, and also what he sang and his band played.
