Ahh I miss Korea.... When I was a studen there the main cheap option (basement) for 800won (used to be slightly less than a dollar by then) and expensive one was 1200won which were the best price option around. Normally regular cheap option outside of school was like 2000won to 2500won in Shinchon. The university had gorulsam(choose) as well where you chose your banchans and stuff and you paid for each item. Student co op used to run the coffee dispenser and stationaries were also 20% cheaper than regular price elsewhere. It was a huge shock when I moved to Canada and Canadian universities ripped students off with expensive food and overpriced books and food options at school were more expensive than options nearby.

I agree about the title. I may just be projecting here, but I wonder if they chose that phrasing because they were comparing Mamamoo’s global fame with other groups and stuff. Like if you look for K-pop in American stores you’ll find groups like Blackpink, BTS, ATEEZ, Twice, etc. but Mamamoo isn’t stocked on the shelves. When you ask people who their favorite K-pop groups are, they rarely mention Mamamoo (I’m basing this off of what I’ve heard from other reactors as well as TikTok’s where someone stops people on campus and asks about their favorite groups/idols/songs etc and I think don’t think I have seen a single one where they mention Mamamoo). I don’t disagree that they have a huge fandom and are very well loved and very popular, especially in Korea. It’s not fair to say they’re underrated in the at way. I think they were more so saying that while they have that level of success, they still get overlooked in some regards. And there’s a lot more to the group than just their vocals. I know most Moomoos are aware of most if not all of the things mentioned in the video, but there’s plenty of casual listeners who are unaware and would probably enjoy them more if they knew more about what Mamamoo stood for as individuals and as a group. And just their talent alone should be enough for them to have the type of global success that groups like Blackpink and BTS have. And while they have some crazy numbers on their videos, they still unfortunately don’t compare to the numbers some other groups get. To be honest, I think most of the issue here is market. Overall I don’t have too many complaints about RBW as a company, compared to most K-pop agencies out there, but their marketing isn’t as impactful as it should be. I truly believe it’s a big part of why their groups are generally not well known (speaking outside of Mamamoo here). It’s also a big part of why the girls have slowly left the company for their solo work. I’ve even heard speculation that the group hasn’t resigned their contracts cause they’re waiting for Moonbyul and Solar’s solo contacts to end so they can also sign elsewhere before Mamamoo makes their new contract. All that to say, I think the reason they may seem “underrated” is because they aren’t marketed in the same way, and so they don’t stay as present on people’s minds. I think a small part of it too is that they are so in their own lane they don’t even feel like kpop anymore. It’s like saying your favorite artist is Britney Spears when you know Celine Dion exists. 😂 It’s not that fans are saying Celine isn’t as good of a vocalist, she’s just in a different league. And who doesn’t love Celine? It’s so obvious it’s not worth mentioning. I think that’s kind of the attitude many K-pop fans have. Sorry for the rant, the adhd kicked in. I know you’ll understand. 😂😂
