Thanks for the info about the Saturn SL1 air filter. I had an accident that cracked open by Focus filter box and the cost of replacement (not from Ford) was $1500!!! Needless to say I checked Ebay and found one like yours for $80.

Thanks for the video. Just a heads up for you and viewers: at 1:14, the view of the air box of which connects to the throttle body flexhose, near the bottom of the airbox is a nub. It looks like something to attach a large vacuum hose. Actually, an air flow restriction guage attaches there. The purpose of this guage is to check if the air filter is clogged ... on account of it being so hard to change. Consider it an "idiot light" that's under the hood. But, if it's not there, the system now has a hole in it downstream of the filter. Meaning, anything which gets into the hole, goes into your engine. Best if that hole is blocked off besides installing the guage.

Worked for me - even cleared out the check engine light. But notice at 0:10 there's two bolts holding the filter box in place. Those are easy to unscrew. The third one is further up under the front of the fender. 0:54 BUT it's open ended and you don't have to unscrew anything - It's meant to just slide into place and also allows you to twist the air filter box to get it out from under the fender. I spent at least 30 min trying to get the fender and part of the bumper off only to discover that.

Is it still working well with your vehicle? The product in the Amazon link in the description is no longer in stock. I contacted Dorman about their filter box, but they said it won't work with PZEV engines.

I have installed one of these on my 2007 Focus 2.0L SES. If you look carefully at the construction, it does not look promising. It appears that the surfaces around the air filter seal do not mate up properly. This product will more than likely allow large particulate matter to bypass the filter. Also the filter at best is only good for 10K miles. So you will be replacing the element often. I don't care about mine. I plan to get rid of the car soon. This cheap fix will be good enough to get by. Thank you.

Yea it was more to do with the epa pzev requirements they wanted to meet than their own choice to do it.

Hank, by changing out the air box with what you suggest does that change/interfere with the Pzev system or does it all still work as intended?

All pzev is, is that lifetime filter and plumbing for it. There is no actual system. Everything worked fine with it

What do you think about replacing the whole air filter assembly with a non pzev box from the same model year I have a 2009 focus that got the filter box inside the fender ripped off

As long as you can get all the parts it should be ok, try a wrecking yard for those

yea give it a shot, you may need more than the airbox, look it over really well may need hardware and clamps or etc that would go with it.

Wait, so you have to remove the bumper cover every so often to replace filters, especially cheap pleated paper filters or you could just buy the new air box assembly and be good for another 150k ummmmm yeah as cool as that is I think I'd rather choose the later and just never have to screw with it again unless the car goes over another 100k before being doa especially since you can get em now for 75 bucks the cost of 3 paper filter changes only you do it once

The whole air box assembly costs 3-4x as much. If you can find it.
