A little late to the party but a helpful video just the same. I saw the difficulty with the case screws. I took the initiative and sprayed with WD40 beforehand. Same with the extension to the drive shaft. Everything came apart without a hitch. Thanks again. (If you're still out there).

I really want to customize a vintage kirby. Paint it bright red with white trim. Have a customer red bag made in the new style. I think it would look amazing. And I'm talking like a automotive quality paint job polished with slight metallic finish to it. Just thinking of which one to customize. Was thinking about putting a sentria handle on a old sanitronic since it has the same rounded arteco design that the sanitronic has. The sanitronic in red would look amazing. Also quick tip just throw stuff like this into your dish washer. Makes quick work of it. Another thing to do is let it soak in vinegar. It eats away at the corrosion makes it easier to polish.

+hanksranger +hanksranger Sweet! I'll have to look for some during the neighborhood spring clean-up/citywide garage sale this June. I'm primary going to look for Kirbys, Orecks, and Sanitaires. Do a video on the Kirbys.
@ChicagoSirens8 жыл бұрын
These Kirby's are strange looking machines! I gave away one of my Sanitaires to my grandparents but I kept the newer of the two (2009). That leaves me room to get an Oreck. I have my eye open for one. I've always been slightly into vacuums but your video where you trash picked vacuums seemed to re-surged my interest into them lol.
@hanksgarage_8 жыл бұрын
Yea that happens lol same happens to me just picked up a eureka heavy duty commercial which appears to be the same as a sanitaire.
@ChicagoSirens8 жыл бұрын
+hanksranger Yes same company makes them. Did you get it new or used? If I recall, WalMart used to sell the Eureka commercials. When will a video be up?

+ChicagoSirens I've got parts on the way for it no beater bar or skid plate. It works but also have to replace the bulb. Within a week more than likely.

+ChicagoSirens Just picked up 2 more kirbys today a newer G7d which works but needs to be cleaned up and new parts and also a blue which I havent gotten into yet, but it needs a full cleaning.

Yeah i was always a fan of these older Hoovers and Kirbys my grandma has a older Kirby like this, also the Royal brand is similair to the Kirbys. I have been wanting to pick up one of these older vacuums for my own house cleaning sooner or later

+Theghostmaster 87 I have a total of 3 kirbys now lol, I got a g7 the other day as well as a blue kirby tradition that I actually thought was a royal at first
@Twintania8 жыл бұрын
Thats not bad, those Kirbys are expensive from what i hear thats the only way im going to get one is trash picked
@hanksgarage_8 жыл бұрын
new they are going for over a grand most people end up paying 1500 and up, its a total racket. Kirby needs to get with the times and ditch the door to door BS, there is no transparency at all, most of the people they sell too are old people and these distributors start that negotiations at $4k, no joke...
@Twintania8 жыл бұрын
yeah they are good but thats alot i could go buy a decent older chevy truck for $1500 around here plus these are bagged vacuums and canister is supposedly cleaner and more effective and the cheap ones go for around $50-$100 at walmart
@hanksgarage_8 жыл бұрын
+Theghostmaster 87 Yea the only thing I dont like about the canister ones is emptying them, the dust screws with my allergies the bags have always been better for me in that regard you can find tests and reviews here on youtube on alot of the canister vacs as well

Hi Hank, any ideas when you might do anymore vacuum cleaner-related videos? I really loved your Royal 880 teardown and rebuild video! That one seemed really essential to all Royal vac fanatics.

Wow, you posted this while I was watching the plastic carb vid. Nice job restoring the Kirby. Just curious, is it necessary to swap out the fan? Do they tend to be problematic or was it simply part of your particular restoration?
@hanksgarage_8 жыл бұрын
Over time as they age they crack apparently or they impact debris and get damaged. They should last about 20 years though from what the vac shop said

Why replace it with a plastic one that would break fast right?
@hanksgarage_7 жыл бұрын
Don't have much of a choice they are all plastic
@ClassicTVMan1981X7 жыл бұрын
The difference is that Amodel, as used on all Kirby motor fans produced since the G5, is a harder plastic than most.
@williamkinkade21057 жыл бұрын
The cream colored fans are made or a very durable polymer, similar to kevlar. They do not break easily.
@ClassicTVMan1981X7 жыл бұрын
But still, if you use your Kirby to inflate or deflate things or other tasks the inflator tool handles (like cleaning your computer keyboard), never do so for more than 5 minutes at a time!

Mine just broke today, the vac was purchased in 1987, i wouldn't call that fast. At this rate I won't live long enough to have to replace it again.
