I enjoyed visiting there, and exploring, 3 days and 2 nights several years ago. I didn't understand most of what you said because the loud music drown you out. Thanks for posting. I wish I had gone inside the cave building.

The gas station at 46 was never owned by an Icelander...that was one at at the other end of town.. This station was owned and run by the long time locals the Hunt family and was closed in the 1970's. Al has moved on and was not a local but a transient, we have had four mayors since Mayor Whipple but he still runs the grocery. The rest of this is true and Blondie's is open under new management and serves a great meal. Hollow Mountain still has great rest rooms...I know I clean them! Come visit me sometime!

We were the first family to live in the house right across the street from the Hunts gas station. It was back when they were just building the new church to get out of the old adobe brick structure. We left the year they started blasting through the hill for the new road, and the Hollow mountain gas station. Back then the road to Lake Powell from there was dirt and ran on the east side of the wash by Hunts gas station and our house. As I recall we were there from 69 to 71. Always loved that area.

@@jeffking6672 They did indeed blast the road through as you remember but the Hollow Mountain was actually built in 1984. Blasting started in April and it opened for business in June of that year. Paving the road to Hite was completed in 1976 thus the designation as a Bicentennial Highway. The old church is sandstone btw. I hope you can come back for a visit soon. Some things have changed but many remain the same. Did your family work for the FAA? I ask because they built the house you mention.

@@celestesellers6110 Yep, my dad worked for the FAA. Back then they built 2 government houses, the one we lived in and 1 to the west of it. We had a hand crank phone, the number was Hanksville 4. I went to 4th and 5th grade in the 2 room school there. Had we stayed for 6th grade it would have been the bus ride. My littlest sister was born at the doctors office there in Green River. Hope to be through this summer and will look you up. You really know your history.

Loud finger picking against a guy with a bunch of reverb, makes for a wonderful listen.

The largest in restrooms in town? in a town of maybe 250. The gas station at 46 seconds was owned by an Icelander in 1987! Its been closed for years. Robbers Roost and the largest pictograph in the world are nearby, in desert terms... . But decades ago I stopped telling people about Utah, someone might believe me and discover it and they might tell someone, etc. So this is as much as I ever say. S. Utah is stunning. My channel name is another story.
@ladytntalways93385 жыл бұрын
Actually false. The gas station your thinking of is on other end of the town.

Hanksville is great because it's somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Good place to grub and gas up before heading to Goblin Valley, Arches or Lake Powell from Capitol Reef.
