Hey, I found this clip shortly after it came out 15 years ago, and i just wanted to say that even after all of this time, this hits me so deeply and it is still one of my favorite pieces of music ever. I don't know if any of this is still active, but Hannah Miller and Daniel Emmerson if you ever see this i just wanted you to know that this song/video is still much beloved by a rural American Midwesterner in the year of our lord 2024. Thank you so much. 🖤

Also, I hope it's okay, I'm trying to replicate it on my bass. This actually inspired me to start to learn how to play it all those years ago, mostly because I couldn't afford a cello. 😅

Unbelievably brilliant Hannah! I've always admired your talent but have never seen a solo performance like this. Brilliant! And by the way, all the comments asking for the lyrics: what is wrong with their ears?! Can't they hear what you are singing? I can. Get a grip guys and listen.

I'm not sure if posting the lyrics is entirely kosher but I love the Moulettes, and this song, and I enjoyed writing this out, so here it is. I don't know why this or Pirate Song never made it onto an album, as they are both stellar. Anyway... The Song You Sing The song you sing with such uncanny abandon and delight. I've never heard it. Where did you learn it? Last night? Your dress is tattered and your hair is matted and your feet are blistered and red. I waited, unsated, but you didn't come to bed. What from all of this should I understand? A bloody fourth finger on your wedding hand! If the whole of history of human endeavour, And magic and science were aligned together, If you could understand it, and command it, Would you drink from the devil's cup? Well, it may be the moon or the electric-trical weather, but I feel like it's all coming together In a moment of clarity, a form of immortality Revealed itself to me. You headstrong lass, to what higher power will you Wilt hereafter like a plucked mayflower? Oh, what possessed you, heathen confessor? You'll never draw another breath! Unhand me, sir, loosen your grip, you don't know what's at stake! And a ship does not necessarily a sailor make. I feel older and yet still young No gold handed over but wealth I've won And oh, it stretches out away from here... For rooted deep that no creeping root could fathom On a gathering storm that greeted Eve and Adam As a sweet droplet dripped from the apple to her lips And she opened up the box!

+eded edde Use your ears! All you have to do is listen. There is no point in a song whose words you cannot hear!

+aristotle358 +eded edde There is no contemporary singer with a firmer grasp of where exactly a syllable should be put than Hannah Miller. It's true- with a continuous view of her lips you can make out even the words that are hardest to hear on the EP version (which is not supplied with lyrics!) such as "electric-trical weather" and "no gold handed over" and "for rooted deep that no creeping root could fathom"... if I hear them correctly that is.

crunchysaviour I'm one of her biggest fans. I notice in some of my comments how she accentuates final Ts in certain words. Her stuff with the Moulettes is excellent!
