I just love her story, grew up with theatre, decided to go for a business degree and worked on Wall Street, then took the chance and went back to theatre and landed Elphaba for the tour and transferred to Broadway for the 15th anniversary of the show and blew up in popularity She became the tour Elphaba ONE WEEK AFTER I SAW IT IN MY CITY (Emily Koch was AMAZING though, so no regret there)

The sheer uniqueness of the belting with the natural vowels and not constantly shifting (a la Norma Desmond/Glenn Close maaaayyy etc) really reminds me of the robust & uniqueness that Laurie Beechman had, although nobody comes close to the POWER LB had. I have to say the cleanness of JV reminded me of when I first saw LB in person, i was astounded at how good she actually is onstage. And also how she handled her voice being that she had quite the run on tour and on Bway as Elphaba without vocal strain.

I've noticed also Jessica, while singing that entire climax portion of WAI, doesn't try and belt super LOUD and scream, she's really shrouding her mix there, cannot even tell if she's full out belting or mixing (which she clearly is doing something different there), but it's imperceptible. Some of these singers like Patti LuPone and Jessica, they have such a unique sound up there, it's just miraculous because you can't fully tell what they're actually doing technically. Babs also, same thing, when young, it was like her own sound up there.
