It's easy for people to say stuff like "they signed up for the risk" or "its their job, they aren't doing anything special" but they are wrong. You signed up for a career where you never know if you are making it back to your family at the end of each day. They don't stop to think about situations where someone that intends to harm an officer makes a false 911 call to set a trap.

3/3/2023 Received a call from work calling me in for the next day to relieve the current shift. One of our officers was down. This brings me to tears every single time. I’m a dispatcher and the officers are all MY officers. The same goes for my firefighters and medics. I’ve heard “shots fired” and I’ve heard the sound of an officer in a physical fight when his radio was bumped. I’ve also heard a “mayday” from my firefighters and the sound of my medics screaming for police due to a combative patient. Thankfully they’ve all made it home.

Think about if you an officer in that situation... you probably would have shot also. However, o thought about why I wanted to go into it in the first place and why it is important to me personally. I want to help people and be there for those who can’t or won’t. I want to inspire some little kid to be something when they grow up or give someone a reason to better themselves. If not me, who else? Especially in the times we are in right now. That’s why I still want to do it. I understand the current situation in this country is not bright, but you can make it just a little bit brighter if you want to.
